#shorts What OCD looks like for me

Note: I am very well now but this was the reality of a large chunk of my teenage years

It’s not an adjective or a “quirk”

IT IS REAL AND IT IS DEBILITATING

I see so many comments that are self diagnosing themselves with OCD. Please do not self diagnose yourself with OCD. It is a real and serious disorder. If you suspect you have it, please go to a professional and get it properly diagnosed. OCD’s come in many different kinds and can interfere with daily life and task. It can be very mentally painful and in serious case, severe for individuals who have it.

the worst one is intrusive thoughts you get when you do everyday things

Ahhh OCD can be so embarrassing, especially when someone catches you performing a compulsion

OCD is definitely not “I keep things clean and organized”
I was diagnosed with Postpartum OCD… pure o kind. U want to know what a living mental nightmare is 24/7… I’m glad this was made to show it’s a lot of weird compulsions to calm ourselves.. but sis u gotta NOT do these in order for it to dissipate 💋

Exactly how it feels for me. it gets so annoying when I have to do things OVER AND OVER sometimes I have to re wrote a sentence and then I get behind in class. Ugh Ocd is hard

Edit: This happens to me and I have a tad bit of ocd not even that much. (I am diagnosed)

I was diagnosed with OCD and it drives me mad when people say I don’t have it because I’m not super clean and organized. OCD presents itself in many ways. The worst part are the awful intrusive thoughts

The reading things over till it feels complete is definitely me. I do mostly when I’m out loud reading and sometimes I’ll even question words when I’m reading

Just a reminder for anyone here who thinks that people with OCD are ultimately clean, it isn't always the case. Having OCD could also mean going through dirtiest aspects of life and being so mentally exhausted you just wanna stop doing anything at all, so you live miserably not _cleaning_ anything at all hoping that the obsession will finally go away

God, yes. I got diagnosed with OCD at 17 after I deliberately stopped driving for months because intrusive thoughts of crashing the car, backing up randomly, re-parking over and over, turning on the blinker even when not changing lanes, etc. started getting too difficult to ignore and I started almost getting in wrecks. I’m doing much better now several years later and have more control over the worse thoughts, but all the repetitive behaviors are still there and it annoys the hell out of me and those around me sometimes lol

One of the nicest people you could know that I went to high school with; (he was in the grade ahead of me, was in the top 10 of his class, had a bright future) was severely ocd. He ended up committing suicide after trying everything, medication, therapy, everything.

Ocd is not a trend and not to be taken lightly. He left his beautiful family behind, a note, and stuck a shotgun in his mouth.
If you or anyone you know is SERIOUSLY suffering from this disease keep an eye on them, and encourage them to take their meds and get help. He did everything he could to stay. But his mind would not stop tormenting him.

Rest in peace, Clarke. And may god bless everyone else suffering from this awful disease.

The only thing we want is to be considered officially crazy and be free.

Sometimes I wake up, that demon in my shoulder starts threatening me and my whole family, I just tell him good morning.
Like, I'm done with this sht.

As someone with OCD, I have the chairs in my house labeled “clean” and “dirty”, and I will repeatedly check to make sure I’m on the correct one about every four seconds. Even if I’ve been sitting on it for 17 minutes already, you’ve just gotta make sure. The most annoying thing I experience is this weird invisible rope thing. It’s basically a string wrapped around my waist that follows me wherever I go. If I move around an object and don’t go back the same way, I feel like I’m stuck in a tangled abyss. Yay :D
