in inverse square law, it's supposed to be r square in the bottom when you are considering the normalised r in the numerator. so your setup is physically accurate.

Wait r is not supposed to be the unit vector, not for gravity anyway, it should be the displacement vector from each mass point. You were correct to make it square. the vector r divided by r^3 is the same as the unite vector in the direction of r divided by r^2. It’s a notation thing, but usually unit vectors are denoted by a “hat” that looks like “^” and other vectors are denoted by an arrow, or a boldface font.
Edit: also consider that when masses combine, so will their velocities, which will be the weighted sum of their masses (the sum will be weighted by particle mass. Sorry the word "weight" and "mass" are confusing in this contex lol). So if you just make the masses merge without updating their velocity they'll just speed up and go far away.

Very useful thanks. The system seems to work well to visualize the N-body problem as long as there is no initial velocity added before the simulation.

Really great video. I wish you showed how you setup the trails

Really great video. I wish you showed how you setup the trails. Also how did you setup the glow?
