True Kevin, no one becomes a believer in Calvinist philosophy by reading the scripture. Calvin philosophy was taught to them, by someone.
I was raised Catholic. I read scripture. I left the Catholic religion.

Calvinists are taught that their theology brings more glory to God so not only are they compelled to convert unsuspecting fellow church goers but once a family member is converted they become determined to convince the rest of their family to join them. So please understand that not confronting Calvinism does not avoid division - it low key contributes to it by allowing Calvinists to continue infiltrating churches and families one Calvinist at a time.
Thank you for recognizing and addressing how crucial it is to continue reformING by leaving the reformed ideas of Calvinism behind us -where they never belonged in the first place. 🙏

A thought just occurred to me while listening to your refresher on what Augustine did. He introduced aspects of his old Manichean Gnosticism into Christianity. A thousand years later, Calvin took those false teachings and ran with them to teach that humanity are only puppets/mannequins. That would mean that one could accurately describe Calvinism as "Mannequin Gnosticism"!

It's astonishing to me that just about every modern church position is grounded and locked into a theology from the 17th century.

The fact that debates have been going on forever for me indicates to me we all have a lot to learn and think about.

Also the questions people have seem to evolve over time.

The tricky thing is to find out what questions the Bible wants us to have and is answering, rather than relying on early reformation attempts at biblical answers to medieval questions (which may not have been the right questions.)

Thank you for keeping it real Kevin. Grateful that the debates calvanism presented only occupied a couple years of your life.
I’d add that the century old debate argument Calvanists like to use as evidence to suggest there’s validity to thier position is nonsensical because atheists have been debating Christianity since its existence- should that make us any less certain that God exists?

I agree with you Kevin, concerning systematic theology books. But I have seen Adam Harwood being interviewed about his book, and as I recall he made a few interesting comments.
He pointed out that it is not called systematic theology, but Christian Theology. That was done for a reason. Beneath the title are the words, Biblical, Historical, Systematic. The word systematic is last, also for a reason. Adam saw the biblical and historical components as far more important. He also, I believe, see's the systematic approach as potentially problematic. However, when producing this sort of work, there has to be an element of systematic involved, but he knows that you can't put God in a box, so his approach is apparently very different to Wayne Grudham.
Well I hope it is, because it is on my birthday list and I can't wait to get into it.

I think this is why it is great to be a gamer: the media we have chosen each has a main story/leason to learn from it, and can be learned in a way that you don’t get from movies in that you are interacting with it actively just like when you are reading a book. Msny of the From Software games (Dark Souls) shows a dying world that is trying to go back to the golden days everyone remembers from the past, only for many of those people to end up worse along with the world they inhabit because they were stagnant. As for the council of God, I recently went through the Silmarilion, and not even the Valar could glean into the full council of Eru Ilúvatar, and the Valar were basically deities that helped shape the world; if the Valar in Tolkien's world got anxiety from not knowing what would happen to the children of Ilúvatar that were yet to come in part because of the actions of Morgoth, how are we supposed to know the full council of Adonai in this life?
