What is Reformed Theology? | ask THEOCAST

Is reformed theology just another word for Calvinism? No! Reformed Theology is much more than the doctrine of salvation and the five Solas. Reformed Theology was birthed out of the reformation to clarify the gospel and define faith alone in Christ alone. This theological system, when properly understood, will lead Christians to find rest in Christ outside of their works and in the finished work of Christ.

So I'm a Jewish believer in Jesus as our Messiah. Never heard of Calvinism, Reform, etc. All I know is that the Word says that whosoever believes in Jesus/Yeshua shall be saved. Unfortunately all this other stuff has been creeping up in conversations and I'm left standing there clueless with what this all means and why so many argue and are divided over it and why is even important. I want to learn but don't know if my brain will ever wrap itself around it. I just want to be in the Lamb's Book of Life. Will it matter if we are reform? Calvinist? And other stuff? Serious question here. I'll love to read anyone else's point of view.

Calvinism does not equal Christianity. Imagine not needing Calvin (or Augustin) to understand His word. Doctrines of men are dangerous.

Why do men make the gospel so complicated? Leaning on our own understanding is folly.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
A simple, concise, easily understood overview rather than an intellectual lecture.
I've watched it twice and took notes.

I am now more confused about what reform means after watching this

I think the Holy Spirit gets lost in this logic/understanding....
Isn’t the Holy Spirit supposed to teach us all things?

Finally a layman's version most can wrap their head around. Thank you fine sir. Heady Pastors serve the intellectual word salads but fail to reach the masses.

I am new at this church. When I heard reformation church I asked what does this mean....really nobody could explain it so made me think twice about this church. People there don't even know what reformation means. 🥺🥺🥺
So I started doing a research on my own and came across this one which got more confused.
The gospel is so simple and Satan try to make it confused.
Wow. Got a headache with this so call explanation.

As R C Sproul says everyone’s a theologian the question is how good of a theologian are you? Yes, you do need not go deep in theology to be saved, but there are intellectuals who enjoy this and thank goodness because theologians have kept the church on track for centuries. Were it not for Martin Luther John Huss John Calvin John Knox George Whitfield and others…we would be going in the wrong direction. Many who profess Jesus, cannot articulate their faith when confronted by an unbeliever. Theology helps one engage with people questioning their soul. If we love, Christ, then we will love his word, and we will seek a deeper relationship with him through his word.

Good to know what it’s not. But other than that there’s a lot a jargon nobody outside of your camp knows or understands.

At various points in the gospels, God speaks from heaven
and states, "This is my beloved Son... hear him."
Why do Catholics and Protestants resist and instead
continually follow the words of everyone else but Jesus?

I'm so glad that I was saved before my head was filled with all this nonsense.

Thank you for clearing that up. I’ll do more research based on your bullet points but I know I am definitely not reformed based on this information. Still I see the value in understanding this fully

Pretty cool video man
Common people get tripped up in the terminology of any theological perspective and say things like “why does it have to be so complicating” but if they would take the time to study they would see that it is just a way to point to a particular part in scripture that points to Christ or the gospel and the terms help for memory recall for example “Calvinism” or “tulip” someone might ask “what in the world is that?” And then they are off on the adventure of searching the scriptures… reformed/Calvinistic seems to point to the glory of God and the gospel which was the sticking point for me… Roman’s 9:11 is quite a verse but consider the context ;)

I'm with him other than his bizarre statement that reading the Bible (that he mocks as "your Bible reading plan") doesn't do anything. This is where Reformed seminary types sound Roman Catholic.
