It’s difficult for ppl who’s brains are wired for addiction…
That one bite just leads to more…
Some ppl actually need to abstain certain foods. It’s like alcoholics .. or other addictions.. 😢 .. it’s me. Very hard. I have that kinda brain.

After I went through cancer it has been difficult to eat healthy and deny myself treats. It is like I am not sure tomorrow is coming and why shouldn’t I enjoy myself now…

1. Pause
Be mindful

2. Take your time
Set a timer for 10 minutes and do something else.

3. Indulge mindfully
Have a little bit of the treat.

4. Don't do negative self talk
It's not a guilty pleasure, it's pleasure.

Feeling comfortable with discomfort...excellent advice! Earlier today I sat in McDonalds parking lot talking to a friend. My plan was to get a coffee but as I sat there, my mouth hunger was triggered by the picture of food on the building...and I started craving a Big Mac and fries too just because I saw a picture! As I got off the phone and in the drive-thru line I had a moment of reflection...yes, this would taste pretty good (not as good as it used to when I was a kid but...do I really want to do that? ) I'm glad the line was moving slowly b/c the answer was NO! Today I was strong...and seeing this video now is confirmation that this is to be my new habit! Reflection. Be in the moment...and wait. Today I came home and made a delicious salad of spinach, arugula, salami, cheese and olives, plus a big batch of steamed broccoli. I felt so much better afterwards than I would have if I had given into that momentary craving! Thank you for your wonderfully fun and informative videos! Your guests are always awesome too. Y'all must have a lot of fun working together.

These points are the basic premise of a group program I completed through my local community health centre here in Canada, led by two dieticians. We met once a week for three weeks and then had one additional meeting just to chat and reinforce what we'd learned. I have lost just over 60 lbs. and have maintained that loss for several years. It was a slow process; the first 50 lbs. took five years, but with a change in lifestyle and thinking I have no trouble whatsoever maintaining my current weight. I eat whatever I want in moderation. Mindfulness is key.

I find that when I eat very low carb, my cravings go away. It's the sugar and bad processed foods that feed my cravings.

Wonderful advice. Makes so much sense, and I will heed her advice. Thank you, doctors, for making your vids informational as well as entertaining. Your guest doctor was incredible as well, and provided helpful information about mindfulness that people can actually practice. Your summation at the end is appreciated as well. Love you all, and you are making lives so much better.
