I can't stop thinking about food and how to stop being food-obsessed.
You could have an obsession with food if you think about food all the time. Don’t worry, food obsession is actually pretty common, and I’m going to give you some ways to get out of it.

What is an obsession with food?
It’s totally fine to enjoy eating and to look forward to having certain foods.
But when food is overwhelmingly present in your life in ways you can’t escape, when you start feeling addicted to food or start fixating on what certain foods will do to your body, you may have an obsession with food.
This can manifest in different ways, such as spending too much time thinking about food and wanting to eat/looking forward to eating all day long, or it can look like obsessing over which foods are good or bad, and feeling guilty after eating the foods deemed as bad.
In short, if food occupies your thoughts constantly, you may have an obsession with food.
Why are you obsessed with food?
In most cases, if you are obsessed with food, it’s because you’ve been restricting your eating in some way. I’m sure you can look back on your past and think of a time when you weren’t allowed to have a certain food, and this only made you crave it more.
How to end your obsession with food.
Now that you know what a food obsession is and why you suffer from it, here are some ways to finally get rid of it.
Let go of your food restrictions.
The most important thing to do is to let go of your restrictions and regulations regarding food, and to give yourself permission to eat.
Turn to a more mindful way of eating.
While you move away from restrictive eating, shift towards a more mindful way of eating. Mindful eating is a technique used to regain control over your eating habits. It’s based on mindfulness, a form of meditation. It means being aware of what you eat, and eating consciously in a healthy and balanced way in order to rediscover taste, flavor, and pleasure. The goal of mindful eating is to create a connexion between body and mind while you enjoy your food.
Find comfort in other things than food.
It’s totally normal to turn to food when you need to be comforted sometimes. However, food shouldn’t be the only way to cope with your emotions. The best thing to do would be to work on changing the things that are causing this discomfort in the first place.
How to stop being food-obsessed in conclusion.
You may have a food obsession if food is overwhelmingly present in your life in ways you can’t escape, if you feel addicted to food, or if you feel like eating is constantly on your mind. Hopefully, this video gave you some tips on how to stop food obsession!

I start eating when I’m hungry, but once I ate something I can’t stop overeating until I’m so full and bloated

I'm 14, struggled with anorexia for a while butam now trying to recover (8 months in) . My brain is so food focused and I don't know what to do, I can only think about calories 24/7. I'm finally happy with my body but all I can think of is food, during class, at home waiting till the times that I let myself eat, etc. Other girls don't think about food this much and it drives me crazy, I just want to be thin and happy :/

i used to always think about food despite not restricting. i think it was inherited by the habits of my parents. but, what helped was listening to my body and being present in the things that distract me from food (books, school, work, etc). you 100% have the ability to stop thinking about it, you just have to let yourself be distracted.

I have anorexia, I’m in recovery, don’t restrict, & I have a nutritionist. But despite all this, I can’t stop thinking about food, & in my mind, I’m like “I can’t wait until meal time is again” even when I just ate & im full.

I feel like I can either be happy with my body or happy with food. I gain weight when I eat what I want. The only way to keep the pounds off is to restrict what I eat. When my body finally starts to look how I want it to look, my mind feels deprived and I don’t have energy. I don’t desire to be stick thin, but I want to have a flat stomach. How do I reconcile this?

Recently I started eating a lot more healthy, and it immediately stopped the cravings!!! I was so shocked and happy. So that is another reason why I decided to stick with eating in moderation for the rest of my life.

As a person with ADHD.. i like highly palatable food. And the more i eat it ..the more i crave it.

I feel like that's telling an alcoholic to have all the alcohol they want.

Your videos are quite literally changing my life right now! I'm just coming to terms with the fact that I still have some disordered eating patterns! I'm 25 now but restricted food when I was 16/17 and made myself miserable. Since then, I thought I'd completely stopped restricting by letting myself eat whatever I want while still being active and somewhat healthy.

But this made me realize that(at 6:47) where you say that wanting to be more careful but then giving in and feeling guilty is my biggest form of restriction!!

Your videos are really helping me get out of this all-or-nothing diet mindset and finally try to move toward a more holistic and healthy lifestyle. Thank you for making these!!

This is an excellent overview of a very complex topic. I really appreciate your honesty regarding intuitive eating - how it isn't simply about eating whatever you want, whenever you want, and how it may not initially work for people with extremely unhealthy eating habits.
