How to Cut and Eat a Star Fruit (Carambola) | Star Fruit Taste Test

In this episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, I will show you how to cut and eat a Star Fruit or Carambola and I will do a little taste test as well. Star fruits are pretty awesome and can be found natively in places like Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. They can, of course, be planted and grown successfully elsewhere. Fun fact, Star Fruit trees can be grown here in Arizona. There are a few nurseries that specialize in tropical plants that sell them. As long as you take care of them they will thrive here. Texas and Florida are other great places to grow them. They can be eaten as is or used in a number of dishes.

I love these!
Tip: After slicing them, place them flat with some space in between each one (in either a ziplock bag, vacuum sealed bag or the eco-friendly non- plastic ones) in the freezer for at least an hour for a cold, refreshing and natural snack. You can also make a drink called "bebida de carambola" which is like lemonade. (Mosltly water, ice, pureéd and strained starfruit, and sweetner as desired. I add fresh sliced white grapes, red ripe watermelon, strawberries and cucumbers in a family size pitcher for the ultimate hot day beverage)

Thanks again, Matt! You're awesome.

(From Florida) I grew up eating these because my neighbor had an entire backyard of them and always had too many so she’d place bins of them outside for free 😌

Thank you! So many times I ask a question, then watch a ridiculously long video to not have my question answered. This was short, succinct, and answered my question. Thank you.

I’ve never tried them! I am very curious about the taste and will have to buy one to try. Thanks for teaching us how to cut them.

Thank you for helping. I just tried it. I'm not hugely impressed by the taste, but I eat for health, so that's my second priority. I may add it to smoothies.

Thanks for the video. My 9 year old likes them so he asked me to buy them but I didn't know how to cut them. The video helped and we are now enjoying this delicious fruit.

Just had one for the first time and they taste like a cross between a grape and an apple. Pretty tasty. Got it for 1 dollar at the local supermarket.
