In Episode 62 of Astonishing Glasgow I am back in a cemetery and I am sharing more stories of Glasgow's maritime past.
Its not all nice stories however as there is a Clyde shipping disaster and a world famous shipping incident involving an iceberg. I think you know the one.

John Harper is still an inspirational character. Thanks for highlighting the ship building. A huge part of mine and my family history.

To the Resident Historian, when my great, great grandparents came to Glasgow, they were welcomed by the Clyde. While she may have some not so memorable times, I still love her.

As a Shipwright who took part in launches both on and under the ships, I found this video very interesting. I knew about the Daphne but it was good to see you cover the disaster. Well done and thank you very much.

Great wee video again, Nicely done. That part in Victoria park, I remember as a kid there being wee boats for hire. Long gone now sadly.

I'd like to let anyone interested know, that since the 1st week of December 2024, that the whole circular area in the middle of Elder Park, with the Daphne memorial plinth and the Lady Elder statue in the centre have now been completely cleared of any overgrowth, paths cleared, vegetation cut back, edges sharpened up, and is looking better than I've ever seen it look in at least a decade. There's still a bit of clearing to do, and edging to finish off, but it's 95% there and looking great. Big thanks to the men from Drumoyne Community Payback for their sterling, ongoing efforts.

Thanks for another great video. Also a real blast from the past as we used to have a flat in Homefauldhead place and I cycled through the tunnel twice a day! That was 40 years ago!

The most important question - what's been your top speed on a Clyde Tunnel descent? 🙂

The church I am a member of, Hope Community Church Barlanark, was planted by the church John Harper planted, now called Harper Memorial Church.
