Man saves reluctant passengers and then reluctantly gets saved himself. Poetic.

That man survived because he deserved to survive.

So for context, his name was Charles Joughin, he was Titanic's chief baker (didn't have such a nice suite as seen here) and he survived on the upturned Collapsible lifeboat B

That’s actually incredibly smart because you feel less pain when drunk so that is actually very genius of him

His name was Charles Joughin. He was the Chief Baker onboard.
While the ship was sinking he aided people boarding and was even put in charge of a lifeboat, but declined. He stayed until the end, throwing deck chairs overboard so those in the water had something to float on.
By the time the ship sank, he was so drunk and his blood was so warm, that while most died within roughly 10 - 20 in the freezing waters, he managed to survive an entire 2 hours in it until sunrise when he spotted Collapsible (lifeboat) B and got on. Apparently doing all this without even getting his hair wet or feeling much of the cold.

In the 1997 Titanic movie he’s depicted as the guy in the chef uniform on the stern near Jack and Rose.
