There is not much that I wouldn't give up to attend any aviation ground school class taught by James May. 15+ years of flying and he has the best explanations I've seen on aerodynamics.

When I was a kid, a friend and I built boomerangs out of 2mm with an electric jigsaw. No bending, no heating, just cut out plywood and they flew like a dream in the right hands.

I once forgot how to throw a boomerang, but then it came back to me

I swear, behind the scenes is more exciting than the actual episode.

Sails work exactly like wings, producing lift perpendicular to the sail due to differing air pressures. It's why sailboats can sail somewhat into the wind (although not directly into it). Only when you are sailing downwind do they operate directly by pushing, which is also the slowest way to sail.

How about this for an idea for an extra feature, 'James May has a chat'? Each week James just spends 20 minutes having a chat about random stuff, I'd watch it.

As a kid there was a very hyped frisbee called Aerobie, and after that stopped selling they would advertise a boomerang thing. It had 3 prongs and was bright yellow. Driving me nuts that I can't remember the name. Nobody could ever make it work.

When he was asked about things you'd want throw away and want to get back, I thought he was just going to say "people aged between 50 and 60+"

Wrong. Aerofoil type sails have been used to sail with side winds (or even towards the wind) at least since the 15th century (portuguese Caravels), possibly earlier (undocumented). Check the "Points of sail" article in Wikipedia for links and terminology (reaching / beating).
