I love all of James May’s shows, but I truly believe this one could have been 9 seasons and a movie.

James May talking, the clicks and clanks of putting stuff together, perfect video

Obviously for most people this 3hr video is fairly boring, but for me there’s something truly therapeutic and satisfying watching the table of pieces come together. James May’s smooth voice is the cherry on top.

James May is truly a gift to mankind. Truly a class act the way he combines story, mechanics, memories, and comedy among other things.

I enjoy his knowledge of stuff in general and the understanding of how things work, James May needs to be knighted for his contribution to mankind.

That is the best rendition of Twinkle I have ever heard. Mr Slowly is a kickass mechanic, AND musician.

Word can not express the joy of watching this. It's takes me back to my youth, in the early 70's. My eyes forbid me to enjoy this wonderful fiddling, but It thrills me to experience your ability and patience to do so.👌😎👌

I absolutely love I've watched the entire thing over three evenings. I can't believe anybody could fall asleep to this, it's fascinating. I hope there's more!!

A wonderful piece of memory and a magnificent program.. Taking things apart and then putting them back together is a great way to self teach maintenance on these models.
I grew up with Triang model trains and so looked down on Hornby OO. However, looking back, the original Hornby were much better detailed and the couplings looked better. I enjoyed the history lesson. Memories!
I remember taking a Youth Hostelling trip to North Wales in 1967. The return trip from someplace on the north coast line to Manchester Victoria was at the end of steam. There was still considerable use of steam on this line, the final days of steam.
A side note: The Flying Scotsman was an A3 Pacific, the Mallard was an A4, and the corridor on corridor tenders was located on the side of the tender.

I’m not sure if anyone else would understand this, but when he put the clip on and the fire box burst into color and James got teary eyed I really got emotional. For a moment I found myself looking at a nine year old James may in wonder of his train and an older James may reminiscing all at the same time. It was really moving.

The respect for the soldering iron warm up time is next level.

James May is the modern media equivalent of test match cricket. If you pitched such a slow-moving concept as a brand new idea people would laugh you out of the building, yet it is compelling to watch and you become emotionally invested

For me as an electrical engineer it was very satisfying to watch. Funny enough it was very relaxing and educational. I'm 48 and was born just at the end of that era. My time was the beginning of electronic toys.

Something I'd dearly love to do but have neither the skills or mechanical ability to do so, but it doesn't stop me from being fascinated watching other people doing it. and when it's James May it's a bonus, 😁👍

when the little train started running and he got emotional, that might have been the most unexpected moment of frisson i've ever experienced and i actually still can't not tear up thinking about it

Sorted my insomnia right out. A+++. Would watch again.
