I could honestly listen to James May going on about Airships all day :)

James, you should do a Live Hangout where you basically pick whatever subject tickles your fancy and "rant on" about it until your heart's content!
Obviously I know your schedule doesn't provide the luxury of much time... but it would still be awesome :)

I could sit and listen to James talk for hours. I love how passionate and knowledgeable he is. He's probably a brilliant drinking buddy.

The ideal niche for large rigid passenger airships would be sightseeing cruise touring, such as over spectacular wilderness and wildlife scenery. Certainly if ocean surface cruising is enjoyable for passengers, and profitable for the cruiseline operators, then I'd think that a comparable overland airship cruise operation would be similarly enjoyable and viable. It could help economies a bit, provide a spectrum of jobs, including manufacturing jobs that are aerospace/engineering related.

I just love how his off the tangent monologues are just a thing that everyone has to deal with and edit around.

I love it at 5:46 when she prompts him to discuss 3D film and he just carries the fuck on about airships. Brilliant.

This is so James May. The video for it is so much shorter than this extras lol. But then of course it would be.

Thank you ever so much! I was seriously hoping you'd have captured the entire impromptu dissertation and that you'd share it with us. Seriously, interesting and entertaining.

I've always liked Mr. May's facts-and-trivia rants on Top Gear, and I must say that his loose-knit encyclopedic rambles that you share in the outtakes are similarly gratifying.

They didn't have a Zippo style lighter on the Hindenburg. It was an electrical glowing element, much like a car lighter.

About 15 years ago I had very old Japanese friend who was born in 1916, his dad packed him and his brother to the top of a building in Tokyo's Shinjuku ward, at the time the tallest building in Tokyo. This was 1929 and the Graf Zeppelin was visiting Tokyo on it round the world epic.

Can this guy narrate a movie please if he already hasn't?? He has the perfect voice for that.

The smoking room on the Hindenberg was safe because it was mildly pressurized with air, meaning that if any air escaped it would be going OUT of the room. Thus it was impossible for hydrogen to come INTO the room, and thus safe.

The idea of having only one lighter was to make it difficult to light up outside of the room.

Oddly, the smoking room on the r101 saved peoples lives, because when it crashed, the people in it were protected from the fire (from the book "slide rule").

Sitting down with James at a pub, drinking a pint, talking aviation and automobiles. That would be the ultimate life experience. There isn't much that would come close to that.

Hi, the main reason is that positive charges repel, so anything beyond hydrogen would be completely unstable if there wasn't something preventing the nucleus to blast apart. And neutrons - while electrically neutral - interact with protons and each other via a different force (strong nuclear force) which negates the repelling electric force of the protons and hold the nucleus together.
If you're wondering why electrons aren't in the nucleus instead... well, I'm sadly running out of space here :D
