Two climate activists hurled soup on Sunday at the glass protecting the Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum in Paris and shouted slogans advocating for a sustainable food system.

In a video posted on social media, two women with the words “FOOD RIPOSTE” written on their t-shirts could be seen passing under a security barrier to get closer to the painting and throwing soup at the glass protecting Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece.

Imagine traveling back in time and going up to Da Vinci and being like "you know people are gonna throw soup at this. Just a heads up."

If the Mona Lisa painting were to be vandalized, it would be considered a serious crime and an attack on a globally recognized piece of art

This's so awkward, last time I visited the louvre museum u couldn't reach within 30 feet of the painting area ! How is it that there was no security around????
Also Mona Lisa Giacondo's favorite meal wasn't soup 🥣, she loved Tagliatelle funghi porcini e tartufo 😅

Ridiculous!! Art is essential. No need to compare it to other basic human needs! They should spend some time in prison!!

They need to be put in jail for a long time.

I think we need to look things up with what the texts in the video says, ”They shouted slogans advocating for a sustainable food system.” And I agree that there was no point in taking it all out on a Mona Lisa painting. But I think Europe needs to improve their system.

20 years in prison would send a message.
Climate change cant be stopped too late. So accept your fate and stay loving.

I would pose a mandatory 10 year jail sentence to anyone who tried this, let’s see how many would keep doing it afterwards.

Unless strong deterrents for this behavior are put into place, it will only result in further fueling public anger, and ultimately pitting citizen against citizen. The legal system has a huge responsibility in avoiding any further escalation which may result in jeopardizing public safety. So they have a choice to either continue to contribute by turning a blind eye to this uncheched problem and just wait until someone is seriously injured, or finally taking a stand to resolve these matters.

Dude that older lady should know better since she was born the same year the painting was painted.

I support the environment, but desecrating art makes me detest these activists.

Call me extreme, but if you willingly ruin something worth millions of dollars, something that is priceless, or attempt to, you should get life in prison at the minimum. You are quite literally erasing historic artifacts as a publicity stunt to get more "awareness" in your "cause"
