The problem ive had with not just the knights templar, but history in general, is that the Victor always writes the history. As the knights Templar grew in power, they began to be a potential threat against the powers that be. When the king of France and the pope saw that all they had to do was make some accusations that they could not only be free of their debts to the knights templar, but they could actually have the wealth that the knights Templar had accumulated.
It really wasn't uncommon to accuse your enemies of being in League with the devil or whatever the entity of the day was. It was a good way to get the people on your side and have them turn against your enemy, before your enemy really knows what the hell is going on.

imagine being a Knights' Templar. you've dedicated your life to fighting for god and reclaiming the holy land only to be tortured into "admitting" being a devil worshiper just so your king can take all the money you've gained.

If any of you are interested in Baphomet I highly recommend the book, "Baphomet: The Temple Mystery Unveiled by Tracy Twyman (rip) and Alexander Rivera. Most thorough book I've ever read on the subject.

Great scholarship, extrapolating on a lot of possibilities, but I think the explanation "a lot of powerful people owed the Templars money, so let's accuse them of heresy" is by far the most likely.

Baphomet was a coded word . Decoding it using the templars sphyer it becomes the word Sophia which means wisdom.

Is it true that the Catholic Church accused the templars of devil worship because Templar were gaining too much power across several countries? Also a reason why Friday the 13th became such a taboo day being on a Friday the 13th that so many Templar were arrested and or murdered?
