How Afghanistan has changed under Taliban rule in two years

It's exactly two years since the Taliban seized power again in Afghanistan - forcing thousands of people to flee to Europe, in fear for their lives.

Women's rights have been crushed, Islamic sharia law has been imposed and food insecurity is at crisis levels.

Yet here, some refugee charities are concerned that the British government is failing to create safe routes for asylum seekers to settle in the country.

Not much you can do from the outside when the Afghan people themselves supported this -it’s apparently a much more peaceful and safe place to live now than it was during the American era

Whatever happened to the money stolen by the former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who fled with $169million in his cash-stuffed helicopter and was given asylum in Dubai on 'humanitarian grounds', rather than stay and defend his country from the Taliban? No doubt this amount was just a small sum of the total amount that he had previously stolen and deposited overseas.
Remember, this money came from funding given to Afghanistan for their people and was taken from US / UK taxpayers.
Why hasnt that cash been seized and either returned to the people of Afghanistan or to the US / UK public?

Can we just leave these people alone please. They're really none of our business.

Its time Britain stop caring (destroying) about Afghanistan and worry about themselves.

Afghans are living under the system they created for themselves. America gave them the option to take a different path but they weren’t interested

Without any doubt, there’s security, safety, no more kidnapping, no more corrupt government officials.
There are massive new projects in action, including planned artificial river/canal to irrigate vast areas so Afghanistan will be self sufficient producing wheat etc.
With Chinese involvement there are now oilfields.
There are many other projects in action and eventually provide employment to large number of people.
Afghanistan should be left alone to better lives of the ordinary people.

At least Vietnam was ready to participate in the world stage.
Afghanistan is doomed to stay like this for decades.

Reminder that the taliban would have no power if the United States didn’t arm the mujahadeen in the 80s. The government of Afghanistan before the mujahadeen had full equality for women and women didn’t wear burkas. But people don’t like to hear about that history or about how the west directly caused what Afghanistan is now

As per legend, Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires. Thus, the Afghans ought to be able to rid themselves of the Taliban. Since they haven't, it is reasonable to conclude that the Afghans like the tyranny of the rule of the Taliban. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My heart stays with the women, children and men left behind in hiding, fear and left to the terror of the taliban, the broken promises of safety and help from the west that fled and never retured, my heart aches for those left behind in a very opressed afghanistan. Why did we give them freedom and hope, just to rip it away again.. SHAME on the west and on Trump who made the ridiculous deal to begin with.... the majority of the afghan people did not want the taliban in control, they wanted the system they had built over the past 20 years. This is probably the biggest mistake the world has made during my life time and it will come back to haunt us

Two years not enough, it will take far more years to forget defeat in Afghanistan. West began fight against Taliban but forced to replace Taliban by Taliban. It will take time to overcome from Talibanphobia.

The Afghans had twenty years to create a better country for themselves at the expense of the west so for free, they chose the taliban. They made their bed.

To all feminist...
The freedom and rights you enjoy in the western world were given by men. If not, ask this Afghan woman.

There was a video from the USA the other day of an Apple store being robbed around midnight.

Over in Afghanistan shops are remaining open at night due to how safe everyone feels and the fact that if anyone commits a crime they will be severely punished.

Right now Afghanistan is safer than the USA. The IEA have done a tremendous job. Tobias Ellwood was spot on in his praise.

Sad yes but remember the afgan army who outnumbered the taliban 4 to 1 didnt even bother to fight for their own country the abandonment by the west was wrong but so was not bothering to fight for your own country.
