Recently I got a used 17” K Sweet crash cymbal and since I have it’s 18” bigger brother I had to do this comparison to hear their differences.

It’s not very often that you get to compare crash cymbal who’s only differences are their size and a slight difference in weight. This should be interesting!!

For starters, let’s get to know these two crash cymbals.

Zildjian’s K 17” K Sweet Crash Cymbal and the K 18” K Sweet Crash Cymbal are both part of the K Zildjian Sweet collection. According to Zildjian “this collection extends the iconic K Family into a new direction of tonal colors that are dark, sweet, and responsive. K Sweet Crashes are extra thin in weight with an unlathed bell and feature the traditional K style hammering technique that help to deliver a darker sound with a fast attack and great response.”

When it comes to their tonal characteristics, the 17” is only a half step higher than the 18”. The 17” tends to be a little thinner sounding than the full, present and thick sound that the 18” provides.

Both do a great job with being present at the point of contact and than getting out of the way quickly.

Over all, there are plenty of situations you can use these two cymbals for, not to mention they pair really well together. You just need to know them enough to find out which situation they pair the best in.

Nice, I play 16" 18" & 19" A customs, 17"& 18" Sabian aax's, for when i want a more open washy sound. The Aax's & XSR's I have are dark & real washy, very nice to ride on too
