Back at you with another Crash Cymbal Comparison that I have been wanting to do ever since I got a hold of these two cymbals.

Keep in mind for this comparison that these two cymbals are very different in shape, taper and purpose. I just thought it would be interesting to compare the two and that’s why we’re here.

For starters, let’s get to know these two cymbals.

Zildjian’s 20” Crash of Doom is apart of the FX line of cymbals. According to Zildjian, the Crash of Doom is a “Monstrous, explosive FX cymbal that delivers booming trash crashes, dry stick sound, and a broad sustain rich with dark, exotic overtones.”

Meinl’s 20” Byzance Vintage Crash is apart of the Byzance family. According to Meinl, “Crafted with age in mind, the Vintage voice within Byzance has unique features that simulate the aging process of a cymbal to couple relic sounds with modern appeal.”

Along with being very explosive, the 20” Crash of Doom has a lot of crash like tonal qualities to it, ride like stick definition and a subtle ounce of trashiness to it. The 20” Byzance Vintage Crash doesn’t have a lot of stick definition, but sure has an explosively trashy sound that I love.

Both do a great job with being present at the point of contact and than getting out of the way quickly. I really feel the Crash of Doom excelled at this!

Over all, there are plenty of situations you can use these two cymbals for, not to mention they pair really well together. You just need to know them enough to find out which situation they pair the best in.

What do you guys think? Which cymbal did you prefer and why? Leave a comment and let’s chat!

Enjoy the demo and have a wonderful day! 🥁🤓❤️💪🏻
