Dennis DeYoung wrote this song for his wife, to whom he is still married. She now tours with him and performs as a backup singer. I've had the privilege of seeing Dennis live in the past 10 years and it was a phenomenal show!

I gave a 45 of this one to my wife (fiancé at the time) the day before I left for the military. It encompassed everything I wanted to say to her. I came home on leave and married her and brought her to Germany with me. We've been married almost 35 years now. So this song has special significance for me. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Played This song on a continuous loop in 1979 my daughter was born. She is now 44 and this song, whenever I hear it reminds me of that day when she was born.

Four songs into the Styx discography, and you're just getting started! "Babe" is such a great song. It was their first #1, and their first Gold single. For your list, add "Lady", "Lorelei", "Blue Collar Man", "The Best of Times", "Too Much Time On My Hands", are all classics. For your next one, though, I hope you do "Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man)". Dennis DeYoung's voice... magical. He also had a solo hit with "Desert Moon". The guitarist/backup vocalist, Tommy Shaw, also had a solo hit called "Girls With Guns".

Along this same lines is "The little river band". Their songs "lady" and "reminiscing" are great songs.

This song and Styx' first big hit, "Lady" were written for Dennis De Young's wife Suzanne. Babe was actually written as a birthday gift for her and wasn't meant to be shared with the general public, but the record company knew it would be a hit and they were right. "Lady" is a hauntingly beautiful song that starts out as a ballad but finishes as a banger.

Dennis De Young and Suzanne is one of rock and roll's greatest love stories. Married since (I believe) 1970 or so and still together ❤️

The power of music. This song came out when I was 16...40ish years ago. We lived in a small rural town, my folks told me that we were moving out of state for dad's work. I left behind everyone I knew, including my 1st love. To this day this song still brings tears. I am happily married almost 30 years and hindsight, I wouldn't change my life, God had it all planned for my best. But, this song will always be deep in my heart. 💜

I love Styx, not just because of their great songs and Dennis' great voice and Tommy's great rocking guitar and voice, but because I actually got to hang out with them in a hotel after a concert back in the early 90s. They were very gracious, funny and just a great conversation with all of the members. Wonderful memories.
