This Was Abraham Lincoln's Favorite Meal

Abraham Lincoln is many things in the minds of the American people, but a gourmand is almost certainly not one of them. The tall and lanky Lincoln apparently ate less and less as the stresses of the wartime presidency mounted, though he did have a certain dish for which he'd reliably break his fast. No stranger to the kitchen himself, Lincoln had actually learned cooking skills at an early age, and even helped his wife prepare dinner before he assumed the nation's highest office. We'll take a look at Lincoln's surprisingly interesting relationship with food. This was Abraham Lincoln's favorite meal.

Lincoln the rescuer. Helped his family after his mother died when he was age 9. Important fact about Lincoln!

I guess the fasting I was doing was actually a 16/8 and the "Honest Abe" diet.

I was like 240 back in 2017 and Im currently 190 with just muscles.

A simple breakfast was like Prez. Lincoln. Eggs, toast, fruit, milk and coffee.

Dinner I have all the meat I like lol. Mostly Chicken and Seafood. Only have beef and lamb on special occasions.

Lincoln had a mystic sensibility into the suffering the entire country was going through, and a part of him died as he felt the grief of every family that had lost a loved one. For example when reviewing soldiers that had just taken part in the bloodbath called Antietam an officer noticed Lincoln acted like someone looking into a crowd and trying to find someone-but not finding them as if he were seeing the empty ranks of soldiers that had died. To paraphrase Bruce Catton's great prose on the matter 'he now had to rely on the prairie toughness of his youth to carry himself and the country to the far off, distant shore shrouded in darkness concealing both great and terrible things that only Lincoln seemed able to catch small glimpses of'.

Lobster, straight from the cold Atlantic waters off the shores of Cape Breton, N.S. It's the sweetest, most delictable thing I've ever tasted! 🦞🦞🦞

I've made Lincoln's favorite oyster recipe several times, and it's delicious! It's also quick and easy. It's only about ten minutes from start to finish. I'd be happy to post it if anyone's interested.

I just found a copy of "A Treasury of White House Cookery" on Amazon! I think they had one left. It looks fascinating and I can't wait to try some recipies for my husband and friends!

I couldn't imagine trying to eat while being in charge of the country during the Civil War. Can't blame Abe on that.

Ol' Abe looked like he had the Consumption toward the end of his life. Maybe lil' Mary Todd was a reluctant chef.

Things keep going the way they are, we will all be eating chicken feet soup like I did when I was a kid . That's right, my mother would actually buy large bags of frozen chicken feet at the "bull market" on shopping day ! (yikes) lol

The reports from the various battlefronts during the Civil War - Especially those regarding the Death Count - would steal anyone's appetite. Mine, for a certainty.
People forget, the Civil War was a close-run thing. There were many, many times when it looked like the North would fail....
