President Abraham Lincoln was Assassinated in this Chair 🪑

President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in this chair during a production of Our American Cousins inside the Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC on April 14, 1865. It was acquired by Henry Ford at an auction in 1929 and installed at the Logan County Courthouse in Greenfield Village where Lincoln tried cases as a lawyer prior to becoming president. It was moved to the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in 1979 as part of the museum’s 50th anniversary.

I’ve seen that chair lots of times!!! It used to be in the Lincoln Courthouse in the Village when I was a kid. I don’t know when they moved it to the museum. It has hair oil on it, they said, not blood. It’s in a glass case.

Shouldn’t they keep this at Fords Theater? Like it’s already an exhibit in DC… nothing against Detroit, but IMO, they should’ve kept it at Ford’s Theater
