Obama: Republicans portraying white men as 'victims' helped Trump win votes

Barack Obama has said part of the reason more than 73 million Americans voted to re-elect Donald Trump in the election was because of messaging from Republicans that the country was under attack – particularly white men.

In an interview with the radio show the Breakfast Club on Wednesday to promote his new memoir A Promised Land, Obama said Trump’s administration, which he did not name directly, 'objectively has failed, miserably, in handling just basic looking after the American people and keeping them safe', and yet he still secured millions of votes

Mr. Obama is describing the tactics and results that he believes in.

I would add that everyone knows that perception is reality for everyone, not just oppressed groups. It is not so much the victimization that motivates these men. It is the ultimate disenfranchisement from society. While it remains taboo to use the N word or to denigrate others in society, there is no equivalent taboo against defaming and insulting "Old White Men" on every occasion. These insults to old white men, as it were, are not only overlooked, but encouraged by narratives such as Mr. Obama displays here. How long can one be the pariah in a society that he or she wants to be a part of? How many times are white men told to check their privilege, by others who disagree with opinions rendered? What are they to do? In closing my comment, it is important to add that old white men are NOT, NOT a monolithic group, as that would be a stereotype/fallacy. please do not discuss all men in the same breathe. It is lazy to do so, and false on it's face in every instance except those specifically proven.

Many of the old white men who are asked to check their privileges, are also the same men who fought in wars to protect freedom. Many are gone. It is time to stop excluding old white men in the Democratic party and to begin treating everyone with real equality. The identity politics needs to end. It is hurting America. Republicans seem attractive to men, because they are disenfranchised by Democrats in many instances. It is wrong and needs to stop, if Democrats want votes from this cohort.
