I had my ass lit up in a sparring session yesterday. Sucks, but you just gotta keep going and trust the process.

Many years ago: a friend who had fought in the streets of New York, then in golden gloves, asked me if I'd like to box. I said 'yes' because we were friends. We warmed up and put on gloves, and he told me to keep my hands up. Then he hit me in the head. I was shocked, but he just said 'Whatsa matta? Keep ya hands up!' and right then and there I got a new religion: keep my hands up.

First sparring session I got beat up for 3 rounds granted dude took it easy on me but he's a naturally strong dude that competes in local MMA & boxing events here after about sparring the same person 5 times, I started getting the better of him and started landing cleanly. Biggest thing that shook me in my first spar was seeing how calm he was and that was intimidating AF. On the bright side seeing him so calm helped me develop that same calmness in spars & gym work

Something comforting is that EVERY great champion has been whooped in sparring at least once. It’s all about taking it as a learning experience. It’s also why I don’t like people posting sparring clips, it’s extremely unprofessional

It's crazy how ppl give it up after a few punches. I dislike when I get rocked in sparring, but I also enjoy it because I can still get better. Never being challenged would be boring.

My last sparring session I got hard counter right and a liver shot. My coach laughed cause he didn't mean to hit me hard to the body but I said we should continue. Gotta keep going and progress! I gotta tighten up my defence 100%

Awesome vid man. Had a sparring session this morning and it really humbled me. Fought someone way better than me who had a championship under his belt and I left feeling really down and out as well as a gushing nose. This video reminded why why I do this, to improve and get better, and not come out on top everytime.

I’m 24 and I got demolished by a 15 year old in sparring. It’s bad enough losing to an older and more experienced guy but it’s much worse when it’s a kid 😂

Facts! You will get beat up from time to time in sparring. However, Develop your defense and movement. Having no defense all the time is not cool or tough. Also, don't always do heavy sparring only occasionally and do a lot of defensive sparring and drills.

Very true as a fighter/coach I see it everyday. Boxing is no joke and lots can't handle it. Only a handful if people can actually dig deep and except the inevitable and keep moving forwards. Great video well explained. Thankyou buddy

Got pieced up in sparring today, started shit talking myself etc but realised it's part of the game. I'll learn from it and move I know where I went wrong. Got 4 weeks til my fight I know I can do this.

Thank you for this video this made my day much better. It really put today’s session into perspective. It really crushed my fragile ego as I always thought I “won” my sparring sessions. And I lost bad today with the other guy also posting it on social media.

But like you said this is all a part of the sport. The second phase of sparring. 🙏🏻 thank you I will overcome and get better!

Bro this helped I had sparring sessions today normally I’m the one to come out aggressive and trade punches but today was so bad I felt weak I was just taking punches and not coming back but I feel that is was just bad day

Great post again Coach,
You’re right about other sports, if you’re not ready and willing to hit and get hit……find another game to play.
10 years of rugby here.

I just got my ass beaten up 4 hours ago and physical pain wasn't the problem

I felt like nothing
I couldn't do shit
And they just kept punching me with speed and different combos

The real pain is they were 4 - 5 years younger than me too, rn i'm mentally fucked up

Now i understand what does this sentence really means "everybody got a plan until they get punched in the face"

Got into boxing as a way to get into shape and all my life I’ve been know as the soft crybaby, I wanted to put myself through the trials and tribulations that a man should go through to toughen up plus I love boxing watching it and training for it, not ashamed to say couple of spars I’ve sniffles after a lil bit and eyes watered but no flat out crying some people deal with it differently I want to grow more as a person and I hope to do so with this spoet
