Carriers, as we know, are an absolutely essential player in the transportation industry that every broker needs to get comfortable working with.

But more often than not, when trying to negotiate with them, the conversation may not exactly go as planned.

Sometimes the mood sours when they ask for more money or a higher rate.

Sometimes they are just not in a good mood to begin with and that makes the negotiation process even more difficult.

Sometimes you're just not at the top of your game, and you fumble a bit in the negotiation process.

But whatever the case may be, there is one tip that I have that will dramatically help the negotiation process, and help set the stage for a positive and respectful conversation.

It all boils down to recognizing what the carrier is doing in their job, and showing respect for that and all of the other things they are doing on a day to day basis.
