Its not stuck, mathematically it works, but will you ever be able to test it? I hope its right! Wouldn't that determine whether or not gravity is an actual force with force carriers or if it's just the result of mass curving spacetime?

I will never get people being mad at string theory. It’s a theory that can potentially explain everything and as scientist the duty is to explore it weather it pans out or not. There is math, there is many ideas, only problem they are stuck on is technology. With our current tech no experiment has been able to fully prove the theory so perhaps we need a few more decades or we may actually find evidence that string theory is flat out wrong but in that case said evidence can lead to a new theory. I bet no scientist downplays string theory or any theory because at its core science is our way of explaining what we observe, no theory or law is 100% right, everything is subject to change as we progress.

Ngl, as a scientist, this sounded like it could be rephrased as "string theory had made some great theoretical breakthroughs, especially in mathematics, but as yet appears to be an incorrect description of physical reality." Just an opinion.

You need to judge string theory by a different standard.
Not a scientific one. That would never work.

It is incorrectly named though. It should be called a string hypothesis.
Remember theory in scientific terms means fact, a description of reality.

What he fails to mention is that they thought the dimensions associated with gravity might be relatively macroscopic, as big as a millimeter.

If it can't explain dark matter, dark energy and singularities it is no better than the standard model. Just wasting time and resources until the next Einstein comes along.
