Tip n°6 :
Change your fingers.
Go on the chinese black market and try different ones : long and thin, chubby, short and powerful... Don't be afraid to experience finger swap and expand your possibilities !

My secret to improved tone is handing my guitar to someone who can play much better than me

Many say "tone is in the fingers"... so why not try a new set of fingers?

#6: Try a bunch of different picks, you'll be amazed to notice how much they influence your tone and feel of the instrument

I think cheapest way to improve the tone is to work on picking hand technique. Picking hand determines your clarity and attack

Best thing i did to improve tone (apart from practice):

Buy good quality cables, all of them.

Good patch leads, good guitar cables and a top quality amp to cab lead.

Tone was at least 30% clearer and juicier :)

If you play with lower tunings like C standard, you should definitely try some heavier strings. Tension is better, guitar stays in tune better, sounds better. Better tone.

One thing I've been mucking around with recently is volume and tone pot values. They can brighten or darken a guitar. A quick way to change the value of your pot without replacing it is to hook up a resistor in parallel across the two outer lugs. Using some quick calculations you can raise or lower the value. Pretty sure the new prs silversky has a 3.3M resistor across the 300K volume pot

Thanks Fluff, the only thing I discovered with the first pickup height tip was that the lowest E string fluctuated in volume and pitch because the pickup was too close. Had to lower it until that disappeared. Great tips still!

Pick hand placement on the strings for palm muting (closer or farther away from the bridge)  and how hard/soft you pick the strings. Picks also play a roll in tone. also the fretting hand on how hard you are fretting the stings will to a degree, affect the tone.

Totally agree about trying different tubes.

Changing your pick!!! I use different picks for different styles, depending on the attack (or lack thereof), drag, speed of the music, the guitar I'm using, etc. For example, I use Jazz III withone band and Big Stubbys with another. Huge tone changer! Cheers!

For me others good tips are:
1) Try the same part with pick and with fingers (I use a lot fingerstyle on solos for different "taste")
2) Try different picks
3) Try playing more (or less) near the bridge
4) Messing with knob. I use a lot volume knob for different sound...for example when I use my Orange Dark Terror with MXR78 dist and I want a more classic rock (not fuzzy) sound, I roll down the volume and I have a Marshall/Friedman sound on steroid with a lot of attack and definition
5) Try different bridge and guitar nuts (maybe try brass nuts)

Great suggestions. I'd add that if the issue is on the guitar end, and messing with the pickup heights and tone knobs doesn't work, try different pickups. This has greatly improved several of my guitars.

One of the best upgrades I have ever done to any of my guitars was a to install a Graphtech Supercharger kit on my telecaster.

The kit consists of Saddles, Nut & String trees, and for $65 + p&p, it has amazed me.

The increase in overtones, clarity, string separation and sustain is unparalleled . My humble Squire Tele is now an absolute beast.

Can't recommend enough. Brilliant.

I humbly request a video on some of your tips and tricks for playing and practicing. I know there's lot of stuff out there, but not from you!

Trying different picks helps a lot too, I started noticing it when I focussed on it, but it has quite a big influence on your tone. Shape and material of the pick are very important to your tone

Good tips, I was fiddling with the bridge pickup on one of my guitars just the other day...
