Stan the ‘Dirt Monkey” stopped by the shop so we could build his Jeep, but next on his list is the “Ultimate” Work Truck. Naturally, we had to argue mall crawlers vs work trucks.

long video short, if you want a work truck leave it stock. BAM summed that one up, saved you all 12 minutes.

I'll agree on the diesel aspect, most of my contractors used gassers for their field trucks. But the owners and heavy hauler pickups are diesel. I personally own a diesel and it literally never gets worked hard. Why did I buy it? Because I could.

I run a “Boss man” truck. Level kit and a rugged tire wheel set

90% of diesel owners dont need a diesel. Ive got quite a few friends with diesels, only 1 guy actually tows often. But hey to each their own.

So for a work truck you want a basic truck with no aftermarket modifications. Wow I'm glad I watched a 12 minute video to learn that... Are you guys running out of ideas for videos? The only interesting thing that was said in this video was that diesels don't actually make up the extra cost associated with getting one but anyone with a calculator could've figured that out.

I have a 2013 crew cab Silverado. Got it before i became a pipe fitter or even had that in mind. I have it leveled. 2.5” strut spacer in front and replaced the back block with a 1.5”. (Front sits about 5/8” higher than back) I have stock wheels (for now, looking at those fuel assault) and 285 GY duratrac. I drive 200 miles a day easy and do not regret it. Sure it’s not a 7.5” on 35’s. But i keep my personal work truck styled just enough to where i still get a head turn at her. Ultimately i want to keep this truck for work and get a second truck for my show truck. None of which would’ve been possible if it wasn’t for all your videos and videos on truck builds! Keep them coming!

Levelling kits are popular for some work trucks, lumber racks, tool box and bed cover or campers. Also led lights. It really depends on what type of job you have. One example are like ranchers trucks that they customize with a big metal bumper with grill guard, wench, led lights & a head rack.

Pretty cool to see Stan on here, his points on modern diesels for work trucks are spot on and line up with what I've seen in fleet use. Unless you need the extra power and capacity, the savings will never be seen in most fleets. Throw in 1 or 2 major out of warranty repairs in the mix and it's pretty easy to lose money on a modern diesel vs. a gas option even with the higher resale.

For the layman with a few bucks to spare, I think 18-20x9s with 33-35s on a stock or leveled truck is a pretty good sweet spot. Gives you some respectable looks and really doesnt change your driveability or work performance at all. Anything more and you definitely start to go toward the show truck side less geared for work.

Had a lifted ram 1500 for 3 years . 6 inch lift 37 inch tires . It wAs my work truck . Used everyday pulling a 6x12 vnose trailer. Sure I got looks and compliments with it but it was a pain for me and my helper jumping in and out of it . Had to lift kids up in the truck and reach to buckle them in there car seats everyday . Now they can get in on there own in our new stock 2018 Ford f 150. Ankle started hurting from jumping in and out . started to worry what happens if I get a flat tire . Can’t just throw a spare on it . I hand wash my vehicles but for guys that don’t they usually don’t fit in car washes, hard to go through drive throughs . And so on . So for a show truck sweet go for it but every day work truck I wouldn’t do it . I’m happy to be back in a stock truck .

I’ve got a 97 powerstroke extended cab 5 speed flatbed on 35s. I kinda have the best of both worlds. I did a Dana 60 swap up front and I put the flatbed on it and am in the process of prepping it for repainting. I’m going for both a cool and nice looking truck but also gets work done as far as pulling livestock and flatbed trailers and putting tools on the flatbed and what not. It is possible to have a clean and cool looking work truck

we use f350 powerstrokes to tow our skidsters and tar pots, gas eco boosts for the fleet vehicles. diesels are fun but on that profit margin aspect yes over rated, sorry instagram kiddos. side note FUCKKK cold starting diesels in february in 10 degree weather
