Very nice! I have to admit, there’s just something about the ships of the period spanning from the 1880’s through the early dreadnought era that I find absolutely fascinating; the sheer amount of new ideas and technologies being implemented almost on a year-to-year basis lead to some truly unique designs that I doubt could have existed at any other time in history. Even in the case of the “ugly ducklings” *ahemFRANCEharrumph* they’re still undeniably interesting ships, regardless of how visually offensive they might be. Thanks for introducing me to a class of ships that managed to be both interesting and easy on the eyes! 😁

Pretty much covers all of the future design issues for the next generations of warships. Very ambitious designs, but obviously also very useful.

It's probably just the paint, but so many of these early ships remind me of private yachts and cruise ships.

Thanks Drach
These Victorian era ships may look strange by today's standards but were cutting edge at the time
It's incredible just how fast technology was changing then whereas in living memory it had been fairly static for hundreds of years.

So what your saying is they turbocharged a 9000 ton warship

I was so excited when I saw the notification for HMS Blake having requested her inclusion about a year ago! Imagine my disappointment that this was not the helicopter cruiser from the '50s & '60s...

That was much more interesting than I originally thought it would be.
Thank you.

"I need a cruiser that can perform any mission; with both long range and high speed."

William White must have been a, "Rule the Waves" player.

Truly handsome ships Mr. White must have had an aesthetic as well as a military industrial side. Excellent report.

When Drachinifel gets on about ships, or in some cases things that aren't ships, I've never heard of before I get EXCITED!

Hot coffee and a Drach video, what a fine way to start a Saturday. Informative and entertaining as usual. Thank you and well done, sir.

I had recently asked for a segment on armored vs protected cruisers and now with this and the Elswick segment my questions are answered, thanks Drach!
