A reminder for y'all: Antagonist does *NOT* equal evil. An antagonist is just someone who opposes the protagonist.

You'd have a point on the idea of Mguel being an anomoly if Miguel was meant to be a multiversal version of PETER PARKER Spider-man, which he is not. Miguel is meant to be Peter Parker's sucessor, not a substitiute like Miles. He technically exists as the future Spider-man for the main earth Peter Parker (616), so he wouldn't have the same canon exents. This is why he is referred to as Spider-man 2099, and not just Spider-man. He is the next chapter, not a re-write. This does, however, indicate that not all Spiders need the same canon events, but doesn't disprove that universally-like Spiders may need them as seen by what happened to Pavitr's verse and the alternate Miguel's verse when those canon events were altered.

Miguel actually directly contradicts himself in the movie, too. He says to miles “you were never supposed to be spiderman” meaning surely these “canon events” shouldn't correspond with miles' life considering he wasn't meant to happen. So stopping miles from saving his father wouldn't be “saving the canon”. It'd just be letting another innocent person die.

I think Miguel believes in the canon event concept because to him, it gives his and others suffering “meaning.” All that happened to his fake family, all the people he’s let die, in his mind it can now be justified because of the “canon”. And that’s extremely interesting to me

What Miguel doesn’t realize is that he’s been changing the canon constantly without knowing it. Each time a spider person goes to another universe, like he did in Gwen’s universe, things change, for example it led to Gwen’s dad finding she’s ghost spider and this leads to him giving being Captain and and her coming back and fixing that relationship is another Anamoly. It means Miguel did something else entirely that ended the universe he had with his daughter and he doesn’t realize it but blames it on changing the timeline

Something I found interesting is that the leaders that he called to assist with the search of Miles after leaving the society, all of them have origins of not being bitten by a spider.

I love the line when Miguel is chasing Miles up the train.

"Are those claws?! Are you sure you're spider man?!"

I feel like it means a lot more than just a little quip.

Im pretty sure the ending with Gwen is supposed to back that up too because her dad quits being a cop, thus reverting what would be the "canon" of captain stacy dying but yer universe doesn't collapse and if i remember correctly Gwen gives a look as if to signify that she's figured it out too.

Thank you for calling Miguel an antagonist. I keep hearing people call him a villain which is not the same thing!

The main antagonist: makes a claim

Everyone: Well then it must be true even though it’s a big plot hole

Miguel isn’t an anomaly, he doesn’t fall under the same pretenses as Peters or other Spider-Man’s as he resides in a future where spiderman and multiple spidermen has existed & on top of that he’s the one that put together the spider society and the one keeping it all from crashing.

If you actually read the 2099 comics, there has already been a spider man with those events, there was even a sort of avengers in his universe in the past. So he won't have those canon events since they already happened for the original spiderman of his universe.

Also Miguel has a rough back story and has the trauma of loosing his child and destroying a whole universe, so of course he's gonna want to be careful with every other universe. He's not the bad guy

A moment of silence for those who thought Miguel’s a vampire

My main problem with his reasoning is that he says to Miles, "This is what you signed up for.", but this ignores 2 main things. 1- Miles didn't sign uo for it, he was bitten like other spidermen. Miguel chooses this life, he injects himself to make himself spiderman. 2- Miguel went out of his way to mess with a different time line and inhabit it, Miles is trying to protect his own time line, all the mayhem was thrust upon him but Miguel was the instigator for the death on a word.

Just because someone is an anomaly, doesn’t mean their universe collapses, the universe fixes itself, that’s why Miguel didn’t chase miles until he said he wanted to save his dad

I think Miguel is right in the sense that some universes will crumble of their canon events are missed, but he's become so obsessed with this fact that he doesn't realize that mile's universe wasn't supposed to exist, since the spider was from another universe, but it still does anyway.

Miguel and the others have different canon events, for him it was his own family that died especially his daughter

I thought this was kinda obvious. In the movie during the “intervention” scene with all the spidermen miles brings up uncle ben while being confronted about the canon event concept. In response Peter B. Parker says, “If not for Uncle Ben, MOST of us wouldn’t be here”. I took this as meaning that most spidermen have an uncle ben but not all, therefore meaning not all spidermen have the same canon events.

If "every accusation was a confession" was a person it would be Miguel O'hara in Across the Spider-Verse

So, are we all forgetting they showed actual consequences to breaking "canon events"? It wasn't just Miguel saying "this needs to happen". We saw the universe he messed with disintegrate from his actions, and we also saw a giant rift open up in Pavitr's verse and start to destabilize things, directly from messing with one of those events.

If he does turn out to be wrong it would require some retcons to do so.
