It's too bad more isn't known about Scott Joplin. He was African American in the 1800's writing piano music, and some of my favorite. The Entertainer, The Mapleleaf Rag, etc. etc. All these songs he makes all sound unique and different they are masterpieces of their own right. I'd love to see a movie about his life made like they did for Johnny Cash and Ray Charles.

2 months ago I woke up with this song playing in my head. I don't ever remember hearing it before, I honestly thought I must have made it up!

Terrific rag. Willard Bailey's "Favorite Rag" is similar to the Preacherine, slightly more complex and with great syncopation.

Ok something I've noticed is in ragtime, the left hand tends to bounce between a staccato undertone and a chord or playing an octave apart in a short melody. While the right hand plays a chord melody where the accented note isn't always on the downbeat, giving the ragged sound we know and love.

This one's my favourite of every rag I've played. Not that I've played all of them up to the correct pace, but there's something about this one. The melodies just flow, and each bit feels properly unique even though they fit together beautifully. Bravo, Scott Joplin, bravo

This ragtime just makes you want to start snapping, tapping, and swinging, a lot of the chords are actually originated from old jazz, which also carries the sane kind of "mood" albeit at a much slower pace and more diminished chords, personally I like ragtime, it's faster, and more fun to play!

Scott Joplin is well documented. He composed in late 19 th and early 20th century. There are several biographies, and more than one movie about his life and career. He founded a school for ragtime and taught several of the ragtime greats.
