Life lesson: Buy expensive car expect expensive repairs.

Brakes and tires are not repairs, that’s basic maintenance and should be budgeted for.

It’s also indicative of your driving style caller.

I believe the $1900 quote. I own a basic 2012 honda civic. The dealer quoted me $600 for a brake job 😂. I proceeded to go to Advance Auto, bought the $29.99 Duralast brake pads, did it myself- changed the pads, cleaned, lubed, etc. They work perfectly. I almost got ripped off.

Audi.... A endless money pit!

As an Audi enthusiast and someone who’s worked at Audi for over 5 years at the dealership, INDEPENDENT SHOPS are the place to take it to when you have service that needs to be performed. Make sure to have money set aside for service, and try to do some services yourself if you can. Stay away from the service department at the stealership.

I’ll say this every time cars are brought up. You trying to save money or pay off debt, an older model Toyota Corolla or Camry will take care of you for many, many years.

This guy needs to listen to Scotty Kilmer.

As a car guy, Audi and vw are basically the same mfr. and after a couple of years they start falling apart at a rapid rate. He needs to bail out now while it still has any resale value.

This is why they have used Mercedes, BMW, and Audi dealerships. Nobody can afford the parts and maintenance.

I'll take an old Ford, Toyota or Honda any day.

I think one thing people forget when buying cars is the maintenance costs. While imported cars have a relatively good value, their maintenance costs are definitely more than domestic considering you have to import the parts as well. In any case, it's your money, your decision. I'd sell the car.

Yes it really pays to buy a car that has good reliability one you don’t need special parts tires or oils, and being able to do basic to moderate repairs your self YouTube is a great resource.

Any time I needed work done to a vehicle, I took the labor quote and spent that on any special tools I would need for the job. I now do all of my own work. 2005 Ford F150 with 180, 000 miles, 2009 Saturn Aura with 140, 000 miles and a 2011 Buick Lacrosse with 120, 000 miles. Only thing I do not do myself is coolant flushes. Only because disposing of antifreeze is a pain.

My 2006 Acura is still going strong and, without car payments, helping get this house paid off way early.

Always consider the total cost of ownership, not the price--before you buy the car. Understand what are maintenance items and services. Understand common repairs. Talk to your mechanic who might be servicing and repairing the vehicle, again before you buy. That's just to make a decision. If you're inclined, you might even consider learning to do a few services you can do yourself (some cars are better for that than others-there are online forums that talk extensively about many, many makes and models, down to the year of model). Most of the time learning a little doesn't cost a dime but can save thousands.

Why buy a expensive car if you not prepared to pay for expensive repairs? 😒😒

I worked at my dad's garage for 4 years. Cars oftentimes are what makes people poorer. Dave should start talking about car choices. An 8K Toyota Camry is going to take care of your *ACTUAL* (important word there) needs for the next 6-7 years. With the repairs, this car is going to cost you 20k over your ownership period + 5k depreciation. Your Audi at 2K the repair and 40k depreciation is going to cost you 60K and it is JUST TO SHOW OFF.

A car isn't to show off. It's to take you from point A to point B. Any cheap car OR slightly more expensive Toyota/Honda is going to take you where you want to go. If you want to pay yourself some luxury like an A/C or electric windows, it's fine. Buy it directly with your car. The biggest mistake you can make is a poor choice in brand and paying a lot of extra just to have the newer model. A 2020 Camry isn't taking you further or faster than a 2010 model.
