Auto Repair Shop Tried Ripping Off my Stepmom $914 for a 2 Minute Repair!

When Samcrac was forwarded a $914 quote from his stepmother for a simple repair on her Ford Crown Victoria, he couldn't handle the price. He drove several hours to find out that she had just avoided a BIG scam. He begins the repair but CAN HE FINISH???

True story : My older female friend with no mechanical skills or tools "heard a noise" in her car so she went to the local auto shop down the street. They gave her an estimate to swap out motor mounts - a leaking CV joint and a serpentine belt for $ 1300. She then brought the printed out receipt to me and said they want $ 1300 and there is a noise. I am a lifelong mechanic etc . . and so - the motor mounts were not damaged at all - the CV joint was not open and/or leaking and the serpentine was fine as well. And the engine and parts were so clean you could eat off of them. And so - in a "nutshell" - the service manager ( likely working off commission ) saw an older lady come in the shop with a very vague complaint and heard "cha-ching" in his head and saw dollar signs. AND - the "noise" was some 2-liters and a container ROLLING AROUND in her trunk when she drove. The car had NO negative ISSUES. And - I had a suspicion that if the shop was this dishonest - would they have gone even further - and done absolutely nothing - ( not changed any parts ) maybe found the 2 liters etc, , and moved them into the back seat - and simply called her - accepted the $ 1300 payment and handed her the keys and said "have a nice day". ?

Love these types of stories. My cousin, and several other people, call me when they have a auto problem and I save them $. My cousin's alternator failed and a shop quoted her $1, 000 for repair. I removed the alternator took it to parts store and discovered it was under warranty. Got the replacement and she was good 👍🏿
