Had two visits to Wake tanking Hornets from Aus to Canada and back. Cheap beer is my fondest memory. And the no-go zone where the permanent staff lived.

I refueled on Wake enroute from Hawaii to Tokyo and eventually Vietnam. July 20, 1969. While airborne, the pilot announced we had landed a man on the moon. The plane erupted with applause, cheers, etc. A moment later dead silence as I think the entire flight realized the irony of our situation.
