Let me answer the eternal question "How much money do you need to live in the Bay Area?" on the example of my real expenses for three months. You will see that it mostly depends on you and your spending habits. What you spend apart from rent and utilities may be as little as $100 a month, or go up to the infinity. The housing price is crazy here, nobody doubts it. It's completely fine to pay $3k for a studio, the room in a shared apartment will be something like $1.5-2k. But if you work in tech - it shouldn't be a problem, since even the minimum salary will cover everything very well.
