I believe you have it flipped.

Stress (cortisol) would inhibit inflammation and suppress the immune system which can cause problems down the line if you're chronically stressed

Bacterial infection causes the release of pro-inflam cytokines (IL-1, 6, etc.) which bind to receptors resulting in cortisol production.
