How Menopause Increases Your Risk of Developing Type 2 Diabetes// Did you know that menopause can increase your risk of developing diabetes due to an increase in insulin resistance as women lose estrogen in the menopause transition. In this video, I break down how insulin resistance contributes to diabetes, particularly for women in menopause, and what you can do about this insulin resistance to keep your weight and blood sugar levels in good control.

Did you notice a rise in your A1c or sugar levels at menopause? Tell me below!

This is such an important topic — and so overlooked. I’ve worked with so many women in perimenopause and menopause who are eating clean, working out, and still seeing rising glucose, belly fat, and energy crashes.

What most don’t realize is that hormone shifts, gut inflammation, and blood sugar instability all feed off each other — and unless you calm the body first, your efforts won’t stick. It’s not just about prevention — it’s about healing the systems that are already overloaded. So glad this is getting talked about 🙌

I’m 55 and have been in menopause for about 3 years. My A1C jumped 2 pts despite no change in diet. I actually have been watching my carb intake very closely because I’ve been pre diabetic for a few years now. I also am at an ideal weight and can’t lose anymore. I was troubled by this. Thank you for your explanation.

Your very knowledgeable. With that said gymnema works great for insulin resistance or diabetes. And you can buy over the counter organic. It works.

I went into perimenopause at 43 and menopause at 47. It was a nightmare 🤦🏻‍♀️ Having suffered from endometriosis and adenomyosis I was looking forward to menopause. My mistake
A real nightmare, got all the symptoms 🤦🏻‍♀️
I travel from the southern part of Sweden to Stockholm to see my specialist, the only clinic that provides you with bioidentical hormones in Sweden.
I have had issues with my weight the past 24 years after a severe burn out. Been under post traumatic stress since childhood, incest survivor, I was put on strong medication at the hospital.
My weight was never an issue before and today I am 15 kilos to heavy for my body frame. My blood tests this past year are not good and the endocrinologist diagnosed me with pre-diabetes. New test in January and if there is no improvement in my Hba1c I will start metmorfin.
Does the HRT treatment have an impact on my blood sugar?
From what I understand stress does but I have been stressed all my life.

The WHI study actually showed an increased risk for stroke, blood clots and breast cancer with hormone therapy. The risks are real.

I'm on estrogen replacement and have gained weight. I'm diabetic too with A1C in pre-diabetes. I also have, er had, PCOS. No more uterus or ovaries at 50.

another really good video Dr. Heather. Hey, I have a question- once a woman goes thru your course and or consultation with you to determine which type of HRT is right, then would you be the doctor prescribing the therapy and products or would a woman have find an HRT Ob/GYN doctor locally first and one who is actually on board with Rxing the HRT and then come to you or what is the process? ~thank you

I have a gene mutation called BRIP 1 that puts me at an 8%increased risk for ovarian and breast cancer. The drs want me to get a full hysterectomy but I am terrified because I have PCOS. I felt like my hormones are already a mess and that will throw things way out of whack. Diabetes and heart disease run rampid in my family . I really would love to come see you and talk about this. I feel so lost.

I have met with two doctors about going in HRT. Both of them refused to give it to me because I am overweight. How is someone in my situation supposed to get HRT when NAMS doctors say no. I have no risk of breast cancer. I have high (barely) blood pressure and almost high cholesterol. No diabetes.
