ONE IMPORTANT TIP: Always wash the outside of ANY melon before cutting. Melons skin 'can be' loaded with some nasty pathogens and when slicing, the knife acts like a transport agent bringing the outside 'nasties' into contact with the inside 'food'. Food preps in restaurants recommend this since sometimes people will get sick from this happening.
Also, I would put strong toothpicks or skewers into the pieces so people could hold them like popsicles, and easier to grab.

DaveHax - nice watermelon cutting tip. Thanks. One suggestion for an improvement. When doing the first pass, leave all slices connected at one end so that the parallel cuts in the second pass at 90° won't slip off just yet. Like you do when chopping an onion.
That should work easily with a sharp tipped knife like the one you had in the video. And you can push your weight down onto the side close to your body, making this really easy even for watermelon chefs who lack strength to cut through the watermelon's skin otherwise. ;)

I cut up 1/4 watermelon this way -- with long pieces and rinds for handles -- to take along on a trip. Best way if you're going to serve watermelon to be eaten by hand! This changed my watermelon-cutting life.
