It's still difficult for me to see the geometric interpretation of v-w as you describe it. Instead, I see the result better to first draw the -w vector then add it to v vector. This definitely follows the parallelogram view. I always like to interpret subtraction as just the addition of signed values. Definitely wish you had been my professor in college. My instructor treated this subject with as much enthusiasm as a funeral.
