While I enjoyed and entirely agree with this lecture, I did not get what I came here for - what the need for equity is. I'm not sure the word equity was even spoken in this lecture. The subtitle, that we need equity to stop oppression, may well be true but I'm having trouble coming to grips with how. I personally believe that diversity is key to our survival as a workforce or even as a species, but even I have to admit that a peat moss factory doesn't improve much from the diversity of the line workers who are treated as little other than biological robots. The best and brightest of us only have so many ways to hold up a bag under a spout. So I feel like these broad categorizations of ye concept helping industries in general to be disingenuous, and worse cloud the truth in statements like equity being a requirement to stop oppression. I know this talk was done 5 years before my comment, and I'll look for further commentary from Dr. Martin, but I wanted to elaborate on that rather than cheapen the experience with a comment like 'clickbait title' when that may or may not be true but is unfair regardless.
