I have watched around 50 videos for drywall and ceiling patches in the last few days. It is surprising how many of them don't discuss the type of mud used for the various steps in each project, such as what to use for prefill, what to use for taping, what to use for skimming and / or topping, and what to use for knockdown. The presenters tend to use industry lingo which is another homework project (such as skimming and topping, are they the same?). I really appreciate this video, it's one of the best I've seen yet. Thank you.

Ok I haven't seen that technique since the '70s, and it was rare then, but a few custom home tapers I knew would do the whole house with a horsehair brush and their fingers as you show. Never saw a prettier more consistent texture wall by wall, room by room than they would put down. Excellent Video, thank you.

Oh my gosh! That’s what I’m talking about!
No need for a $25 spray can of ceiling texture!
I was installing my fitness pole and did one quick spin on it, looked up and my fraggin’ ceiling was punctured...damn! I thought I was on a joist but missed it by 1/4”...I’ve done some mudding but never had to match a heavy orange peel knockdown...This video is EXACTLY what I needed!! Thank you!!

Right on… funny ive been a stucco n drywall guy for 20 years and have used everything possible but have never flicked it with fingers… im impressed. Its always difficult to match a rig spray but that looks pretty 👍

Been texturing for 30 years and have been using these techniques you've just showed for just as long. Nice job, repairing different textures is definitely an art, glad to see someone doing it correctly 👍.

Having trouble finding the "Magic Fingers". I went to Lowes and Home Depot and neither had them in stock

This is a cool technique. I might have to try it as I'm trying to match that exact same knockdown texture over a poorly done patch job by a previous owner. I've been trying to match it with a dedicated knockdown sponge but the sponge can't do the small dots in between the larger splats that mimic a professional spray job. I've also been using all purpose green mud, but it sounds like the 45 minute hot mud might have a better standout. Thanks for posting the video!

I just had to cut out a large section from my garage wall to repair some copper pipes behind the wall. Am replacing with fresh drywall because the original got water logged. Will try this to repair and finish. If I can get it close to existing texture I'll be thrilled.
