Chris, was it you who I remember having a video on the transition from the mostly tonal era of art into the impressionist era? I was pretty sure it was you, but I can't find it :P.

It's easier to focus on value when you're far enough from the example that you don't notice the details. The piece needs to be viewed in whole. Avoid letting details draw your eye.
