4:10 as a teen, I do quite like sophisticated and thought-provoking books and have several friends that also prefer such. YA is supposed to be more mature--that's why it's not _middle grade._ A lot of Booktok books get slapped with a "YA" label mostly because they have some makeout scenes or intimate romance, not because it actually handles a complex world/plot and mature topics.

i’ve read all of those besides red queen but i own it and am planning to read it once i move and unpack. the other books were masterpieces, except I personally didn’t like Caraval as much as the others. I did read it right after ouabh trilogy, which was absolutely incredible, so i may have had too high of standards when reading caraval.
also the review on hunger games. children murdering each other is horrendous, but that’s also the point of the book. emphasizing on the horror of it and acknowledging poverty and partiality towards the rich and poor/uncabable.
