What horrible past experience would cause someone to deduct four stars for a book, just because it has goats in it? What did goats do to this person?

I recently finished the borne tril (strange bird, borne, dead astronauts) and I'm obsessed with them!! I love how you really have to dig for the answers for to some questions/details- the payoff is worth it! There is also a short story called 'the situation' which gives details about Wicks time at the company and his relationship with Mord (pre becoming a bear)

There's a concept in psychology called _limerence_ "an involuntary interpersonal state that involves intrusive, obsessive, and compulsive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are contingent on perceived emotional reciprocation from the object of interest" that seems to fit the woman in Letter from an Unknown Woman.

It's pretty understudied, but the researchers who write about it draw parallels to substance abuse or OCD. If the obsession and intrusive thoughts impair a person's ability to function in society, that person may benefit from clinical intervention.

If the depiction of 'love' in that novella strikes people as pathological that might be because it actually is. The phenomenology of limerence might be worth thinking about so we can prepare to recognize it in ourselves or others.

Battle Grounds is not bad... It's just that a lot of things happen... that some people might be having a hard time with.

I liked Battle Grounds, but one thing happened that i think should have been moved to or closer to the end of the book so that it had more time to breathe. It felt rushed and not as big as it should have been. Other than that it was great. I think that was what put most people off though.

LOL not the retroactive Battle Grounds reviews.

I get it, I can't judge how other people deal with their trauma :P

I get where that Battle Ground affecting other reviews is coming from, but totally disagree. I think it's exactly why you should read the series.

I know you don't tend to read Children's books/YA, but I just finished reading Lockwood and Co by Jonathan Stroud and I think you *might* like them!

Murphy, since you only have about seven more books in the Dresden files at the when you get to the last one, would you do like a series like reading reviews and theories and things like that I just want to see what you think once you get the whole story through

The goats comment was golden 😂!!! Loved this video, hope you consider doing this again!!!! I laughed so much and you seemed to enjoy it as well. I thought I was the only one who read the one star reviews of books that I give five stars.

These are some of my favorite video but I do wish Corey was in it. Merphy turns up her outrage and snark a good 20% when he’s there.

I was so taken aback when a reviewer I enjoy completely panned one of my favorite books, one that is also very popular. He hated all the things that I love. Took a while for me to digest that.

Interesting reviews for Unknown Woman. I've heard it said that more + more readers seem to think they have to agree with the characters or even narrator in a book to think it's a "good" book, and assume that what's going on in the story the author must approve of.

To me this is a pretty ridiculous way to read books and is definitely missing the forest for the trees.

All that said, I personally do not at all enjoy books centered around obsession, esp romantic, for whatever reason so I would almost certainly DNF 😅

Lol battle ground is tough but not bad... its also like part 2 to the previous book... so it has all the crazy climax intensity from a dresden book... but thats the whole book cause all the pulling at threads 'slower' bits were in peace talks. But also spoilery reasons. I think its still plenty worth the read.

Merphy may I suggest you read the nemesis saga and the kaiju preservation society. And then read kaiju no. 8...pretty pretty please the books first then the manga.

This is hilarious 🐐 I get annoyed reading 1 stars or even 2 stars of books I like so nice to see humor in the situation
