CN3791 MPPT solar charger, MPPT voltage 12V

Testing the charger. At first sight it looks OK, but it turned out when the voltage drops below the MPPT voltage (for example a cloud blocks the sun) the charger stops chrging and doesn't restart. It is not acceptable.

CN3791 data sheet states Vin of 4.5V to 28V but only works from 12V & above.

I just tested the module, if the battery has a low voltage(mine had 3.6 volts), it will resume charging right away, so indeed, if the battery isn't under a certain voltage threshold it will not resume charging if input drops under the rated "mppt" voltage(9/12v). It will however restart the "charging logic" if input is disconected(0 volts i guess?), did not test any further.

I have got the apparently upgraded version. As it turns out, the charger only start charging from 12V and above. Stops charging just below 12V. The D3 connected to pin no.4 "Done" is always on during charge. Really weird. D2 supposedly the Schootky diode in the rectifying circuit lights up as an LED beside D3 when Vin>12V and battery not connected. Hopefully someone can enlighten me.

Very useful test. How do you get the IC to start charging again? complete power off or wait more time? Maybe it is just a delay

Was this using a single Li-ion battery?
