Electronic Basics #29: Solar Panel & Charge Controller

Показать описание

In this episode of Electronic Basics I will show you how solar panels are wired up, why bypass and blocking diodes are necessary when working with them and how we can get the most power out of them. At the end I will also show you how MPPT and PWM charge controller can use a solar panel to charge up a battery.

Interesting to see that you also fell for the MPPT scam. The one shown in this video is actually not an MPPT type controller. The MPPT on its case is the name of the company manufacturing these.
How about making our own?

Confession: I watch your videos just to see your hand drawn diagrams and listen to your pleasant voice! I maybe even learn a little along the way.

Ahh, thank you! There is so much garbage "explanation" about PWM vs. MPPT on YouTube... but you are the first I've found who explains what MPPT is.

I work with solar power plants for more than 5 years and haven't heard such a good explanation on the basics of the PV system. Thank you for this video.

I did learn something new. Never knew what MPPT was, just knew it was baller. Thanks for my daily "Learned something new today"

Even though you do not sound like a native English speaker, your diction is so good, that even relatively complicated concepts are easily understood by the listener. You do far better than most native English speakers, who, all so often on Youtube, you find, are not sure what they want to actually say. Complacency and some arrogance. I cannot thank you enough for the time you take to share all this knowledge and your sincerity in doing so. Thank you sir.

I never heard of MPPT. Try what I learned in electronics college, Maximum Power Transfer. Basically the internal resistance loads are matched. This way of thinking has been around for decades before solar cells became mainstream and it really does work. Good work charting via real life measurements, though!

oh yeah, your video come at the right time! I'm planning to make an air conditionning system for a tent, based on a Peltier module and solar powered. I know that Peltier modules are very inefficient, but for the application I don't need freezing cold temperatures or a big exchange surface. this video will help me to choose what components I need for this project, thank you!

Id like to thank you for re awakening my interest in both electronics as well as "making". Your videos are always fun to watch and usually spark the need in me to try out new things in electronics. So thanks for making awesome videos and i hope you will achieve all your future endeavors.
