Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is a 1984 American action-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg. It is the second installment in the Indiana Jones franchise and a prequel to the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, featuring Harrison Ford reprising his role as the title character. After arriving in North India, Indiana Jones is asked by desperate villagers to find a mystical stone and rescue their children from a Thuggee cult practicing child slavery, black magic, and ritual human sacrifice in honor of the goddess Kali.

I love how he sees skeletons, a heart being ripped out, people being thrown in lava, people who are crushed to death, and people eaten by crocodiles, but Short round is still grossed out by Indy and Willie Kissing.

Indy never gets to keep what he's set out to find.

First he had to give the Ark of the Covenant to be hidden by the US government. then he had to return the Sankara Stone to this village, and then he had to leave both the Holy Grail and the treasure in Crystal Skull behind in their respective caves.

Temple of Doom might not be the best of the original trilogy, but it has the most satisfying ending out of all of them. Not only does Indy bring the stone back to the village, but he brings all the abducted children, literally returning the life back to the village. All that to one of the most triumphant versions of his theme.

Also in Raiders he doesn't even factor into the ending and the Arc is secured by the government in the end, while in Last Crusade the Grail is lost forever during the collapse of the cave. Here not only does Indy succeed in defeating the villain by himself, but he also brings back the treasure he set out to find AND gives it away willingly to do a good deed.

When I was a teenager. I thought this was corny.
Now as an adult, sort of. When the Mothers see their little babies coming back home after thinking they would never see them again!! Oh my gosh. I burst into tears.

Part of it is, I know there is so much abuse of children in the world now.

Even before the children returned the village was a complete 180 from what we saw at the start of the film. The colors are brighter, the crops are greener, the water is richer, the adult villagers were fatter. All signs of a community prospering
