Dr. Indiana Jones journey into the South American jungle with a group of porters to find the Golden Idol of Fertility within the Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors. Jones avoids various traps, the betrayal of his two guides, Barranca and Satipo, and a giant rolling boulder that chases him out of the temple. Waiting for him outside is his nemesis, French archaeologist René Belloq, and a small army of Hovitos natives.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 1981 American action-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Lawrence Kasdan, based on a story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman.
It stars Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacey, John Rhys-Davies, and Denholm Elliott. Ford portrays Indiana Jones, a globe-trotting archaeologist vying with Nazi German forces in 1936 to recover the long-lost Ark of the Covenant, a relic said to make an army invincible. Teaming up with his tough former lover Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), Jones races to stop rival archaeologist Dr. René Belloq (Paul Freeman) from guiding the Nazis to the Ark and its power.

The music was composed and conducted by John Williams, and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

One of the greatest openings of a movie ever.

One of the greatest openings to a film I've seen. Perfectly demonstrates Indy's character in 5-10 minutes. I used to watch it over and over again as a kid.

Until 4k, I never noticed the Idols eyes moving to look at Indy. Love it.

I think Raiders of the Lost Ark is the best Indiana Jones movie ever. This is one of my top favorite scenes.

Here’s some fun facts about this scene:

-It says “South America, 1936”, but it doesn’t note that the temple is specifically in Peru.

-The full name of the Golden Idol is the “Chachapoyan Fertility Idol”, housed inside the “Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors”. Both of which were created around 64 BC by the Chachapoyans (who would end up being conquered by the Incas). The Hovitos (the people with the bows and stuff) accompanying Belloq are descendants of the of the Chachapoyas.

-The idol is based on Pachamama, the Goddess of Fertility and Earth.

-Once you look closer at the idol, you’ll see it shows a goddess-like figure giving childbirth in a kneeling position.

-The giant rolling boulder is made of fiberglass, and the sound of it rolling is a Honda Civic driving over gravel (slowed down).

-Those spiders are specifically Mexican red-knee tarantulas; the species is actually relatively tame. Around two dozen of them were on Molina (who played Satipo)! During the first few takes, all of them were completely still, which made them look fake. Once it was discovered all of the tarantulas were male, they decided to add one female, which finally got them to move! Molina also got itchy because of the tarantulas’ irritating hairs (New World tarantulas have “irritating hairs”).

-If you listen, Ford mispronounces Satipo’s name as “Sapito”.

I love this opening sequence so much. There’s very little action or dialogue, it’s mostly just watching them solve a big puzzle, and you perfectly are introduced to who Indy is through all of it.

The setup of the spike trap is so clever - the first time when you see Satipo's reaction it's like a funny gag, but then the second time actually sent chills down my spine...

This was a Golden Age in cinema.
Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, it just doesn't get any better.
Even movies like Beverly Hills Cop were fresh and fun.
There just seems to be a lack of imagination and creativity in Hollywood today.

This is peak cinema along with the original Star Wars trilogy

Man, I never appreciated how nice the cinematography is, especially when Indy grabs the idol with the wide angle of him about to swap it with sand.

Edit: I added in a few words that were originally left out

This is nothing like Netflix. The HDR looks insane. Is this from the new 4K release ?

Man. 1981. I feel so bloody old. But then again, I loved "The Maltese Falcon", "Casablanca" and even the 1950's "Cyrano" and "The Great Dictator". 🙂 So... whatever. Great films are timeless.

Anyone else notice that the partner/sidekick (Alfred Molina) is Dr. Octopus from Spider-Man?

Sunday 28th January 2024. Raiders of the lost ark will always be the best of all the Indiana Jones films. Thank you Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Harrison Ford and the rest of you. Best of luck! From Virginia Clark.?! ;) ;( :) 🤠🐒🐘🐴❤️

2:34 So what happens if they had gone into the tomb at night time? I guess this trap wouldn't have worked.
