I like how the different damage types work, makes it hard to become over-reliant on any single weapon. Honestly its awesome how the game doesnt absolutely limit you to certain weapons/combat styles but makes you act tactically about them.

I end up usually carrying 2-3 melee weapons that I find complement each other well + a bow/arbalest, and then ooze/bile bombs and/or multiple spears for throwing if I'm preparing for a big fight. No single weapon is best for every situation (though swords make a pretty good jack-of-all-trades imo.) So it's good to have a variety at the ready

One thing the video could do with is an explanation of WHY Spirit is the oddball of the elemental damage types: Only Undead-type mobs can take Spirit damage. Nothing else. If you're going to trudge through the Swamps, Spirit goes from least useful to very useful. Likewise that burn effect brings the a fully upgraded Silver Sword up to par with a fully upgraded Black Metal Sword (if swords are your jam) against Yagluth since he has the undead flag set.
Another feather in the Mistwalker's cap is in addition to the utility from Frost and Spirit damage, it lives up to its description of "seems to slice through the mists" as it does push the Mistlands fog back in a 6 to 8-ish meter diameter bubble around your character, making it the only equippable way to do so other than the Bound Wisp... So after you die, grabbing your stuff and pulling your sword will give you a little bit of visibility while you try to get into a spot to get your other gear back on again.

Something I don't think was mentioned is that lightning damage is the only type of elemental damage that contributes to staggering along with physical! Lightning (along with frost damage) deals 1.5x damage to wet targets (they have to be at least waist high in water to get the visual dripping cue, they can't just be rained on like us vikings). This also is a great boon to staggering with the himmin afl as well as its DPS.

Something really neat as well is that staggerlocking enemies (re-staggering enemies over and over til they die in a single combo) is much easier than most people think. When enemies are staggered, their stagger bar doesn't reset, it just starts to deplete by 20% per second, and so using the atgeir middle mouse and then following up with the normal atgeir moveset we are able to staggerlock a great deal of enemies! This includes: the troll with a bronze atgeir, starred draugr elite and fuling with the bronze atgeir, fuling berserkers and lox with the black metal but also the iron atgeir at decent levels, seekers with the bronze atgeir or above (seriously), and most notably at the moment seeker soldiers with the himmin afl at fairly high polearm levels, less when said soldier is wet.

I can't quite stress how good swapping from an eitr to stamina weapon when one resource is low and the other isn't, given the right situation. The swap from the Staff of Embers to Himmin Afl (and bow + atgeir in the earlier biomes although that combo is just stam) is incredibly strong... Also for some reason along with all the other amazing properties the Embers has it also has 0 aggro radius (so does the Staff of Frost), so you can use a boom stick for ranged stealth strats lol (provided you have good mistlands visibility). If they don't patch this out then actually using the Embers in the Ashlands for said strategies could be really good - or depending on the grouping/resistances or weaknesses the Huntsman bow with its 4 meter aggro radius compared to other bows' 8m could see a return to amazing form. We'll have to see.

I like the spear a lot in the early game, because of how far you can go without ever having to return to base to repair at a special/upgraded station. It also has a really low stamina cost, high attack rate, and ranged option that made trolls possible to fight. However, the later grade spears were mostly disappointing because they came with very low durability, and unreasonable repair criteria. (Which I understand that all weapons have the same repair criteria at that tier, but they compensated through durability and higher damage per hit)

Mace types have been my favorite so far, although they're not perfect for combos versus lightweight enemies because of knockback, they hold up unexpectedly well versus heavy enemies regardless of resistances. It was very refreshing to be able to craft the porcupine and fully upgrade it barely 15 minutes into and after the first Plains expedition.

The most important thing for the weapons is pretty much just how easy it is to obtain and craft. Maces take the cake because they rarely need upgrades even in the next level like the Bronze and Iron maces or Frostner. Then Porcupine has the easiest craft out of its tier weapons, plus no next lvl upgrade requirements.

The mistwalkers spirit damage is now great because almost everything in the ashlands is affected by spirit damage.

Fav weapon is by far the drauger fang bow. And I use fire arrows in most bows until I can add in frost arrows. They seem a bit op, but very useful. I have recently been trying out knives/daggers with a buckler, and really enjoy them so far. Going to be trying out different weapons as I go along and better my game.

What is the strongest weapon in this game, i would say it's *skoll and hati*
-No movement speed penalty
-Low stamina consumption
-Cheap to craft
-Very fast attack speed
-High damage
-Has x6 bonus backstab damage to unalerted enemies
-Can 2 shot normal fulings and seekers
-Can 1 shot almost any unalerted mob in the game with secondary attack
-Can be combined with extended/power combo for even higher DPS

Of course it's has some cons like short range, can't be held together with a shield makes it hard to parry strong attacks. But with me, all those stats are just incredible.

Really appreciate this video. Im trying to prepare for the ashlands and having this breakdown of all the weapons and their damage is great. I didnt realize so many mobs were immune to spirit, or that the fire staff and himminafl were so powerful. Gotta work on my polearm/elemental skills now

I recently finished the game with my friends and I was playing as a mage using the full set of staffs and the mage armor
I was feeling awesome and so helpful and unique using this set as we were fighting the queen, adding the feather cape with it was so satisfying as well

I actually love the spears... Especially in mountains. You just have to get good at aiming with the secondary throw option for enemies that are too small to stab or flying enemies, as well as destroying fenris hair drapes or bodypiles...

Put youre cursor a head above what you're aiming at for distance or height, and directly on target for level or down hill...

For things on the floor aim at the floor just in front of the object and throw.

Just be aware when throwing the spear and picking it back up again to imediately fight with,
if youre inventory is full you wont auto pickup the spear and this may cause you to panic.

The ability to throw from range, do big damage and charge in to quickly pick up the spear and deliver a quick few stabs all while being a light and nimble weapon and able to hold a shield all at the same time...
Is to me OP as hell when you get good at it.

I would love a copy of the weapons lists and data that you show in the video. I learn from reading things over and over and your charts are informative.

I love how pretty much any weapon type in Valheim can be on par with its peers if the player is adapted to its fighting style.

When I first played the game I really overlooked knives bc so many games make them just weaker swords, but goddamn are they awesome in Valheim

I typically do swords as primary / atgeirs secondary bc it seems to be quite versatile and decent in most situations, but I enjoy finding new combat styles/pairings. Knife primary / spears secondary works well for a more mobile fighter while clubs / battleaxes makes for a good tank/crowd-control build (though requires more skill with timing and stamina use). Ppl tend not to like tower shields but I find them really helpful in close quarters like crypts, where you're not missing much by losing speed.

Fell to my knees when I found out you didn't include the Abyssal razor in the knives list and only mentioned it in your top 5

Heyo!

Two things I want to know:

1. What is your fav weapon?

2. What do you think of the audio in this video! I'm really focused on improving it and every piece of feedback helps!

Thank you <3

There's only one weapon. Bow. I suck at dodging attacks.

*subbed - your tables are freaking great. Obviously took a lot of time compiling that info!

1:38 correct me if I'm wrong but the values are not representing more damage but rather the multiplier for the base damage. 150% more damage of 100 base damage would grant a total of 250 damage while a multiplier of 150% on 100 base damage would grant a total of 150 damage
