You forgot to mention the scratchy hard touch plastics in the lower door cards. Crazy for a 5 series.

Thank you for your criticism. I absolutely agree as a fan and I feel even more furious about it. A base model peugeot 508 can make me feel more excited which is a real shame

Design aside, I think its ridiculous that BMW removed the exhaust pipes

That was one of the MAIN things that I loved about BMW as a kid, when my dad got his first f30 touring. It looked so cool compared to the other cars that only had bumpers or to feel 'special' that I was part of the exposed exhaust group on the road.

I hate to think of reasons why they did this, but i can only imagine it is for us to get used to the electric design language, but even that idea is pulled out of my ass.

I agree 100% with all your points of criticism. If BMW chooses to go with the same platform for electric and ice powered vehicles, why make them look like they re all electric. The lci g30 is so much more mature, stylish, elegant and powerfull design wise.

Thanks Max. Thanks to be the voice of the true car enthusiasts out there. Once again I feel totally aligned with you. My family has had over 35 bmw in the last 25 years, we basically had all the M cars to have, as well as all the 5 series since 1995.

BMW direction is indeed very scary:
For the Sports car, since the G Gen, we switched to the GT department of Porsche, which has fully gave us what we were looking or. For the dailies however, it is though, as on the market there aren't any valid alternatives that can live on the FORMER BMW Legacy.

Our attitude towards new models changed drastically, before we were always excited for the model, about what crazy innovation it might have brought from the racing world, or what design trait might have introduced to the market. NOW WE ARE SCARED, up to a point which we will start front-loading all the last FEW cars entailing the real essence of our passion, in vision of the future.

This is true for the entire car industry, but particularly more for BMW, which has deluded once again it's most passionate customers.

On top of this, all (other) medias seem to be happy with the latest non-sense in the car community, probably incentivised by some hefty commissions.

Totally agree with your comments on the quality is going down day by day.Previous version luxury package and the one which is facelift are the ones which are my favorite for not only visual basis but also driving feels too.

G30 was a beautiful 5 series. Last one for me after driving 5er for over 20 yrs.

Thanks to this new generation, I love my 540i G31 even more, and will keep it much longer than originally planned. It may be my last bmw. It is a shame as I fell in love in the brand well over 30 years ago buying second hand e28 as my first bmw.

You hit the nail on the head. My family has been buying BMWs since the mid 80s and it’s been getting worse. By far our families favorite BMW was a 91 e34 535i. Amazing car at the time and looked modern for many, many years. My mom handed it down to me as my first car and then it went to my brother. 250k miles before we donated it and it was still going strong. Last BMW my fam had was the first X5 before going big family haulers (Land Cruisers) Fast forward to 2021 and my mom wanted to get back into BMWS, she ended up getting an X3 m40i. She loves it, mostly the drive and power but she was shocked at how much plastic and cost cutting there was everywhere. She’s getting an X5 50e M sport soon which just may be the last one if they continue down this path.

@autotopnl I totally agree your comments as +6 yrs ownership of 5 G model series. I also don’t like digital car speedometer. I think that interface should be optional. Cars meant to be driving machines not mobile PCs.

You described it perfectly by saying that any car manufacturer could have produced this car. Gutted with BMW these days, except with the new M2, love that 😁

It seems to me that BMW has also lost the plot when it comes to design. It was sad to see Mercedes look bad, but BMW too. This has to be the worst-looking set of BMW designs in a while, after such a great run in the last 12 years. Honestly, that's it, just going for a flying spur. At least Bentley is succeeding where everyone else is failing. Porsche too.

I don't know what happened to BMW lately, but for sure this new 5 series is not up to the segment it should belong to. I personally have a G21 320d, which I absolutely love, and since I'm going to change it in a few months I had the opportunity to evaluate the 5 series, but I said heck no, not this one! I already ordered another G21, and this time will be a 330d with the glorious 6 cilinder, and a nice spec. With the same budget as a bland 5, I will get again the best BMW I can have (at least IMHO).

Last week I had a 740d as a rental. The new model with the bicycle stand grille. Very decent comfort but operating all the functions of the car is truly a nightmare. The revenge of German engineering.
