Dodge Ram 4wd lever not working QUICK FIX

Dodge Ram 4wd linkage popped out and its snowing!!! Parts wont be in for at least 3 days but the owner needs it now to plow. this may actually be a semi permanent repair to be honest. ordered the bushing anyhow for the glove box just in case lol Hope you enjoy this short quick fix video

"Brake shoe retainer"
The Retainer i used can be purchased at most auto parts stores, comes in most "drum brake hardware kits" may be sold separately on the help rack as well.
or you could use pretty much any style snap ring that fits
in addition the flat washer OD must be larger than the plastic linkage

Great camera work - the closeups were really clear and helpful. Thanks for the inspiration on an alternative fix

Life saver! I just bought 05 ram that had nothing but play in the four-wheel-drive stick. Now I know what I’m looking for hopefully fixing tomorrow.

Very common. The dealer sells a kit with that whole adjustable shift arm and includes both bushings. I don't think it was very expensive. Nice easy fix. thanks for sharing

My trusty dodge, Dizzy I calls her, just lost the 4x4 shifter. Thank you for showing me where and what to check!

Better than the original. It always pays to keep spare hardware around. That's how you keep a customer coming back.

Criss-crossed Zip ties also work. Run a tail end in place of the bushing to take up the slack, and ensure the two ties are loose enough to just hold everything together for the transition from 4h to 2h to N to 4L. Only thing I never liked about the dodge transfer case selectors I encountered was the bushing, and the fact that 2h is between 4h and 4L. I guess it makes sense to some degree, but it's a bit weird.

That bushing reminds me of the ones on the GMs that connect the shift linkage to the trans levers, they like to fall apart as well. I've seen those stuffed back together with a zip tie holding them in.

Do they still make mechanical transfer case linkages?  I thought everything was electronic nowadays! LOL  You'd make a great trail mechanic Will!

Nice easy mod! I hope I can get under there without removing the shaft, looks tight! Thanks for posting

I had the 4x4 disengage on the highway during a snow storm just about spun out into traffic. I was wondering would installing locking hub stop this from happening. Its a ford ranger with the lever to engage 4x4. Thanks for the videos.

I have a 2016 ram 4x4 and my shifter just recently broke. It now slides forward and backwards with no tension. I can literally move with a feather and nothing happens with transitioning from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive. The dealer told me it would cost around 15k to fix it.
