The Dacia Sandero Stepway and Logan remain true to the budget brand’s ‘no-frills’ ethos and have a pared-down safety specification. The basic, radar-only autonomous emergency braking system reacts only to other vehicles – soon a legal requirement – but it is not designed to prevent crashes with pedestrians or cyclists and there is no lane support. However, crash protection is respectable, with performance that would make the car a four-star performer if it were not for its shortcomings elsewhere.

“Safety has moved on”, says Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP, “and the biggest strides forward are now being made by using high-tech to prevent accidents from happening. Clearly, Dacia have found their market and they’re sticking to it, but a two-star rating shows little ambition, even for a low-cost product. Their decision not to offer a camera clearly is out of step with the market and disappointing as Dacia are aware that their cars will soon have to comply with the new General Safety Regulation. Škoda and VW, on the other hand, show what can be achieved and Euro NCAP applaud them for offering their customers the highest level of safety.

Why did Euroncap changed their notation style.... they shoud give two scores, one for physical security + airbag like before, the others for electronics security... Now people think that their 2000's 5 stars cars are better than this... but in reality it's not really the case...

It got only 2 stars because it doesn't have safety features such as traffic sign recognition, lane assist, EBA pedestrian, EBA bycicle, EBA reverse, dynamic cruise control and knee airbags. It's actually 4 stars downgraded to 2 stars and the experts admited the care is safe during collisions. My 2018 RAV4 which cost an arm and a leg, and got 5 stars in 2013, has the same features as the 2021 Sandero. Where's the justice in that?

its just Bad rating bc of Assistent Systems that nobody needs. That rating is completeley useless!!!!

That's actually quite good, especially the frontal impact. Probably low budget car without AI systems hence the poorer rating but the car otherwise superior to most cars from 5 years ago.

Actually Crash Test rating is very good (4 stars), bad rating (2 stars) is only for safety assist features (like lane assist)

It is a bad test.a test that looks the same for VW and Toyota. this in terms of crash test. the dacia gets 4 stars. the only thing the dacia scores poorly on are the driver assistance systems.
and these are heavier turns rather than passenger safety.
if men find these systems necessary and cannot drive without it, I wonder if you can drive a car, then you are not drivable and you must also hand in your driver's license.

We are at a point where every car is safe... you just need to have an extra wink gizmo to keep the inspectors happy.

they should do separate ratings since if you took out all the electronics like aeb from a super safe car now it looks very unsafe

Dacia has 4 Stars, if tested by old system. Because this model does not have tech which would make it more expensive, but marginally safer, it was given 2 stars. Pfff

Something needed to be done to limit Dacia sales. Here it is.
Totally biased result based on test criteria which have nothing to do with phisical protection.
EuroNcap are skewing public opinion by not presenting the results in such a way as to allow equivalent comparison with old test methods.

I'm off to buy my new Dacia Sandero Stepway 2021!

Fact : ncap hates dacia why ? Well dacia was owned by renault and renault made it strong but those idiots were brutal with it
